Before my grandfather died, my mother had him write out what his father, who served in WWI had told him. I knew both great-grandfathers on my mothers side had served in WWI, but never really heard anything about it, until she was cleaning and found letters she had him write. The last bit I find interesting. I never knew my grandfather to talk like that, be 'negative' or with sarcastic undertones, but I've found a different side to reading all his letters.
