View attachment 12175 Hello, Not been around for a while. Work issues. I thought I would post some of my latest arrivals. First up is an iron cross 2nd class marked L11 manufactured by the Ludenscheid firm of Deumer. Its a really nice mint example. I was lucky to get this one as the LDO marked variants are a little harder to aquire. I hope you like it. regards John
Thanks Skipper, its nice to see the regulars are still here, You Carl and Ray. Carl, Deumers awards I think were some of the best. I have 2 - L/11s ek2. One of which belonged to Fritz Scherer Ritterkreuztrager. One unmarked Deumer ek2. One Deumer schinkel ek2. A Deumer ek1 clamshell. An L/11 cased ek1. An L/11 marked spange 1st class. And finally a Deumer KVK2nd class with swords unmarked. Regards John
Just had to come back to enjoy another look. I like the marked ring a lot it's a marking I had not seen before, it's clear and good quality, probably casted when the matrix was still quite new.
im guessing this one may have been stored properly over the years. an unissued cross I would suspect. One of the best Duemers I have seen in a while. Love seeing that perfect frosting appearence. thanks for sharing DISREGARD THIS POST PLEASE>>>>>>>JUST REALIZED THIS WAS A VERY OLD THREAD>>>MY APOLOGIES
Don't worry about it, Bill. The thread is only two months old. Your response might re-ignite some interest. That happens frequently around here. Fresh eyes on a topic are always welcome.
Hi Lou, it did ;-)) Ive got an EKI with about 97% of the silver as is was when made with only slight tarnish on the back side. It was my first 39 EKI, got it for $80. Its maker-marked Nr 3? I think???? I also have a mint EKII with frost on it, not all the frost but most and I cant remember which maker mark was on this one? It MIGHT be 65 for Klein and Quenzer-but im HOPING not being those are too common and easy to find.
Thanks again for the kind words on this ek2. As you said, I think this one has been stored away properly over the years before I aquired it. Its a beauty in hand, thats for sure. kind regards John
just curious....how does one "store away properly" silver so that it does get any tarnish on it whatsoever? Especially over a 60 year time frame? you mentioned these came from an "old warehouse in the East" so how would they have been stored in this warehouse to prevent tarnish and other types of aging that would occur to an item that has been sitting in a warehouse for over 60 years? I am assuming this "warehouse" did not have any climate control features since it has been around since the 1940s
This L/11 ek2 didn't come from an old warehouse in the east. Your getting mixed up with the BH Mayer mm26 ek1. To store away properly, I suppose means in a dark place with no moisture or sticky little fingers all over it, which causes an acidic reaction on the silver "content" of the frame. Since the frames from different manufacturers have differing silver amounts in the frames, they show different levels of oxidisation. Deumers and also W&Ls both show on some examples of ek, fantastic finishing and lack of oxidisation or patina through the years. I have L11s mm100 L/55ek1, mm26 and mm4, mm13 and mm15 all with great frosting and frames with little oxidisation. However I have um Juncker, mm65, mm27. mm24, mm98, L/58 ek1, Deumer clamshell ek1, mm76 all with patina. I also have a "Deschler hoard" ek2 mm1 un- issued, although mint condition has patina. So in answer to your question, it depends on how they are treated after being awarded or stored. Hope thats helpful, nachtjäger regards John
