The quiet moment of that first cup o' coffee standing on the porch, the feeling I get from the feeding and watering of all the critters, and knowing that I started out the day successful, no matter how it ends, is pretty worth it to me. Though I always regret not going to bed earlier...

That's tough and admirable work there luck there Luke.

I get up at 4:30 on weekdays, and although it's not for something as important as you do, my wife and I have been going to the gym at that hour on weekdays for well over a year.

I get that same feeling of having accomplished something after I get home and have a cup of coffee. Maybe I'll live an extra day or so!

I had two nights jobs, hated the hours and they extra pay wasnt worth it. I woulg get off shift 7am, head to Jims Restaurant to get an ice cream sunday-to relax with before heading home. I was in my early 20s then, and calories didnt count ;-))

I firmly believe there is nothing I can do at 7AM that I can't do just as well at 9AM. I hate getting up in the morning. For the last 6 months or so, 3 or 4 mornings a week I get up at 8:30, eat breakfast, exercise for 45 minutes to an hour, then begin my day at 11. My granddaughter comes over 2 days a week and she keeps us hopping. Gawd, I love retirement.

I guess it depends on your ways, Lou! You're retired you've earned it...
I enjoy getting up early. I like being up before everyone else in the house. That "alone" time is cherished. It's all chores and work and business after that short time. Soon it'll be morning chores done the night before, so I can be up and out before the dawn to hit the spring turkey hunt. And then it's back to the chores. It's garden time a'coming, and the goats and birds gotta eat and their breakfast comes before mine. Then the man gets his time from me. Yup, it may be a bit earlier than most like to rise, but I'll take that time.

I know what you mean about the "alone time". Back when I was working and my kids were young and active, I got up and 6 every day so I could eat, read the paper and relax before heading off to work. That bit of quiet time before the craziness of the day was good for me. Now, I have the whole day to pretty much do as I please (witness my time here), so it's not so necessary.

Too much noise here, I got a barking mad neighbour that bangs on the walls late in the night, another one that comes in late with a bang crash wallop I'm home just to let you all know. My sleeping pattern has been totally wreck over the last ten years and sleeping pills are a joke.

Richard what have you tried? I've tried all the prescription ones, all the melatonin and beet root extract hippie crap I can find...I don't sleep either. Not from noisy neighbors, just something inherited I guess.

Yeah mine says the same thing. He also told me that it's all in my head that I can't sleep. I told him next time I was up all night I'd call him and we'd chat about it.

I work nights (1630-0430), so it's pretty easy for me to stay up nights.
