Trying to figure out what this means.

PVT 403 Training GP AAF World War II

PVT is probably Private, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the rest.

    Thanks in advance!

403rd Training Group, Army Air Force.
Not sure where the 403rd was located--I'll bet someone is versed on this group and what they trained for.
The Air Force was part of the US Army until after the war.
    Oh, welcome aboard.

Thanks for the quick reply and welcome. I appreciate it! This is my grand uncle who I am trying to find out more about. Sadly he passed before I was born.

Next step is start researching the 143rd. If anyone has links or tidbits of info, feel free to post.

    Thanks Again!

The 403rd was a Troop Carrier group in WW 2. It became a training group at Keesler AFB post war as a reserve component in 1951.

Thanks for the reply and link T.A. That really helps get me started.

Thanks for the welcome, GPRegt. To answer your question he is buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA. Wisconsin, on his marker, is where he was born and raised.

Just a question: Does your uncle happen to be African American? Keesler and the postwar 403rd Training Group are both associated with the Tuskegee airman program.
