Tom, welcome to the forum, the pictures and documents would be very welcome, and might help a rouge or two in providing new info for you.

Hi, Tom. I can't say I've heard of this unit, but then there are lots I don't know about. If you're willing, feel free to share what you can. We're always on the lookout for new material.

That's as good a place as any. If you want, you can post photos in the Militaria forum in the Photos section. Alternatively, you can post information in the Western Europe forum, and make an album on your profile page for the pictures and documents.

Tom welcome aboard...where in Michigan do you hail? I'm from the upper lower. (That makes sense to the Michigan folks) Look forward to your posts!

I can't find much at all on them.

Credited with the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes/Alsace, Rhineland & Central Europe Campaigns. Therefore they crossed the Channel as part of the 1st Army. When they moved to the 3rd, I do not know.

Also served occupation duties until Oct 1945 in Germany.

I have suspicions that they supported the 4.2in Chemical Mortar Battalions in some capacity.

The hand has no fingernails. Common mistake. I would be at just north of where the pointer meets the middle though...

That is correct! I am impressed! Where did you dig that info up?? They trained at camp Sibert Ala. and San bernardino Cal. for chemical warfare but that never really happened so they essentially became a supply depot supplying mostly 4.2 mortar shells, flame throwers etc. to the front line. According to some of the guys from the 61st that i talked to the group was split up a little. My dads "occupation" was a Toxic Gas Handler.

The Unit Campaign Participation and Credit Register. At least I think that is the full and correct name. It is at my house right now and I am not.

It was a US Army publication from 1961 that shows what campaigns Army (and USAAF) units participated in.

A really cool person would scan it and create a PDF version for dissemination to his pals.

I just checked around online, and could only find the 1988 update to the Unit Citation and Campaign Participation Credit Register which covers from Vietnam on. I'm still looking for the 1961 edition, which covered WW2. It's pamphlet 672-1; the number is the same for both editions.

Yes. I posted a link to it several months ago. I don't think anyone paid any attention to what it was. I'll have to look for it again.

A really cool person already has and an even cooler person posted it here several months ago.

    Ahem
