Aggressive Marine tactics thin enemy ranks, alter Taliban tactics Since September, the Third Platoon has shot somewhere between 125 and 208 Taliban--as many as one enemy killed per patrol. That rate may not seem high, but the cumulative effect has been crushing. Marine tactics, like Ohio State football, have the subtle inevitability of a steamroller. "We got a radio intercept yesterday," Lt. Garcia said. "Some Talib leaders in Pakistan were chewing out the local fighters for quitting. The locals yelled back, "Marines run toward our bullets!". It's alright man, even Jeff stole my standard : "Ya gotta love Marines".....I am going to start charging you guys a nickle.
I say send our former VP to Afghanistan. If Cheney shoots his friends in the face just imagine what he'll do to these bast*rds!
The unit in the story Texson posted was 3/5. Apparently most of 3/5 has left or is on the way out of Afghanistan, I know Advance Party and H&S Company have returned. The ground element of the 26th MEU, 3/8, has taken over for 3/5, in Sangin temporarily. Here's another article on the Afghani perspective on Marines: Quote from the article: HELMAND PROVINCE, Afghanistan -- “Marines do not bleed. They do not eat, they do not sleep. They are not human.” DVIDS - News - ?Marines do not bleed?: Military operations change Afghan perception in southern Helmand I got my Marine back from Afghanistan last week and he's now home on post deployment leave. Judging from the stories it was a pretty rough deployment. I have a good friend that has a son in 3/8, they're still in daily contact but not the fierce fighting of last fall when 3/5 went in. Here's a tribute video made by the sister of one of the last Marines with 3/5 killed. Some good pics. The price was high, IIRC the final tally for the battalion was 24 KIA and 175 WIA for a seven month deployment. This total doesn't include attached personnel like EOD, Combat Engineers, Combat Logistics, Dog Handlers etc. YouTube - Darkhorse 3/5 Coming Home Soon
I don't have a nickel but I have a brand new space blanket still in the package. And an extra "INFIDEL" patch. Cool?
Until the concept of "total war" is re-embraced,we will continue to loose great young men and women. If the politicians knew that if they turn the military lose, that a clear objective will be won, they may not be so quick to commit our precious blood to these undefined undeclared wars.In other words, there is no such thing as being a little pregnant. There should be no such thing as a limited war.War is not glorious and should be the closest thing to hell on earth. We never seem to learn from history,so sad. God bless all our current and veteran soldiers,Marines, airmen and sailors!
