Tornados were ripping and roaring through the area last night. There were several isolated cells that that took paths north and south of us. The storm was noticeable around our immediate area, but not as bad as some that have rattled us before. I was reading an article this morning about two families that were killed last night when their mobile homes were hit by a tornado. This a quote in the paper: Amazingly, one the inhabitants of the homes survived, but is in critical condition. The church that was mentioned was pretty much destroyed, also. The regular homes that the mobile homes passed over were also heavily damaged, but the families inside were not hurt. I know that most homes will not survive an F-5 tornado, but I'm not going to live in a house trailer.
I'm glad you're OK Jeff, I too was wondering if you were in that particular area. I was watching the news last night, and the fella said that while April tornadoes are not that rare, they are more numerous this time 'round. On average there are 164 reported nationwide in the month of April, and already there have been 160 in just half the month.
One of the women in my Sunday school class lives close to the people who were killed. She heard the tornado and thought it was going to hit her home, so she and her two boys took refuge in the bathroom. The storm passed about a hundred yards to the NW of her. She had no damage.
I recall the tornado in Edmonton back in the 80's. The sky was an evil green/black. Two layers of cloud, one flowing one way the other in the opposite direction. Could feel the pressure change. That tornado also ripped through Evergreen trailer park killing several people. I was working in the back of a 5 ton cube van when baseball size hail pummeled the vehicle. That was probably the most alive I've ever felt. Amazing feeling.
Back in the 1990's, there was a TV cartoon called Animaniacs. Many parts of it were sheer genius. One segment told the story of the smallest trailer in the trailer park-being picked on by the larger trailers. One day a tornado came calling. Not only did the little trailer save the large trailers, it also did battle with the tornado and won.
