I HOPE the damned press will leave them be and let them get started in life as a happy private couple-or at least as private as Royals are allowed to be ;-))
I hope too, paparazis are like grasshoppers on a cornfield, they can destroy a couple in a short time.
So - to walk the walk as well as talk the talk, while my wife is downstairs watching The Wedding, I'm up here in the war room making this posting.....
Well Martin, my wife and I have been up since 3 AM watching this wedding. Kate looks beautiful, as well as the whole Westminster Abbey.
I saw a cute poll the other day, it seems the Brits themselves are of different minds about the wedding (which I didn't watch). They seem to be split into nearly equal thirds, 1/3 are interested, another 1/3 couldn't care less, and the others are going to use the occasion to throw a big party and take only three vacation days off work for nearly a fortnight of free time. Over on CBS the other morning on the Early Show the reporters stopped a couple of Brits on a New York street and asked them what they were doing in America when the wedding was only days away? They explained the "off work" business, and said they had saved up for years to make the trip and this was the best chance they'd ever have and they didn't care one way or the other about the wedding.
Only signs of any life around here was a local council jobsworth complaining about people leaving their Dustbins (trashcans) out. Think everyones gone away, and of course the weather's turned worse than it has been for a couple of weeks. No sound of any celebrations yet.
Was not planning on watching but woke up early....so ended up watching it. To our cousins across the pond......NICELY DONE!
Well, my Better Half settled down to take it all in. I, on the other hand, went for a 4 mile walk in the beautiful (and peaceful, and RW-less) Warwickshire countryside. Perfect walking weather and, in the populated areas, barely a sign of a piece of bunting. Steve W.
I noticed that a lot of news items here during the lead-up to the festivities included an awful lot about Diana. I thought that information should have been minimalized a bit, after all it was Katherine's day, not Diana's.
Okay, I am a little cynical, and I intended to watch the highlights, because having seen William grow up it really is a moment, but I feel like weddings are one of the most personal events in your life and I always wondered why anyone would want a crowd witnessing it (although they had no choice). I just don't get excited about weddings. But in catching snippets on the news, I have been tickled by the giddiness and goodwill everyone is expressing. Everyone seems genuinely pleased and happy for this young couple, so from that standpoint this has been a good day. Reality can come back tomorrow.
I've been feeling very negative about the whole thing, but that post was very well said and made me think I should be happy for them. Thankyou. (I feel the same as you about weddings)
