I keep hearing from my President that Islam is a religion of peace, clearly somebody isn't getting the memo!
Thats because these guys are extremist and dont represent the majortiy of the people who follow Islam.
The thing is that when 'Christians' do something absurd like burn a holy book the common people speak out and condem it. Within the Muslim community all too often the silence is defening, or so it seems. I will confess I do not read Al Jazzera, but do they report criticly on such acts the way our press does with that fool who burned a Koran?
Different in different countries, and obviously there are conservative, liberal and extremist presses too. If you wanted facts though, check for instance how many Christians were killed by Christians just in the US last year, and compare it to the number of Christians killed by Muslims worldwide, including in Afghanistan etc.. There is no 'peaceful' religion, they are all in their modern forms designed primarily to further national ends, which usually means violence in the end. Remember as well that most of the press you see is owned and controlled by Judeo-Christians. I don't watch Al jazeera much either, but web news articles from the Muslim press tend to be much more critical of 'Islamic' terrorist acts than praising of them. There is also less of a tradition of individual outspokenness on issues in many Islamic countries than in Christendom. In the end it often I'm sure depends on if the act is seen as justifiable 'revenge' or protest, or if it is seen as a lunatic act, which perception changes from year to year. Someone who seriously feels hurt by a Koran burning is unlikely to care what the US press says about it, even if that, in that case, does reflect the majority opinion.
there's a difference Nigel between religion and Faith to include your statement about christians killing christians . . . . .to the point were they really CHRISTians ?
Absolutely my point from the start Erich - It's not about religion, it's personal morals (I steer clear from the word faith because it so often means 'state religious affiliation as well as true beliefs). When it's large groups (state or otherwise) using a childhood indoctrination to recruit or motivate soldiers/operatives/terrorists/etc., they all are pretty similar, regardless of which 'book' they peddle.
