Just announced; Osama Bin Laden was killed by United States military action and his body is in US custody. Information is forthcoming. sorry to jump the gun without more but wanted to let anyone who isn't listening to the TV in the background a heads-up.
I just heard the same thing. No real details yet that I could find. I just wonder how much it really means, now.
I've wonder what happens or how things might go if/when this day came. I do think it will boost morale as the pundits are saying. We've spent over 9 and 1/2 years trying to get him. This will also free up the vast network of personnel and material and more than likely allow more of our Troops to come home. That alone is a big big plus.
once again just many thanks and prayers for those in the services responsible and behind the scenes! well all the troops!
I'm not sure I see any changes in resource allocation because of this. Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya all still need to be resolved. Where would we withdraw troops from? Dead or alive he is going to be a martyr to the "true" believers, but I think it's a real victory that we have his corpse. In this case there will be no grave, and subsequently no shrine. Probably most importantly, this demonstrates that the US has a resolve to this conflict that the Soviets and other nations were not able to sustain. After 10 years the US army was as committed to the conflict and to killing Osama as they were on Sept 12, 2001. I will say that the planet does seem like a better place without that tosser walking around on it.
It means a lot....it shows the families of 9/11 that we didn't give up on them. It's not going to end the war in Afghanistan...it wouldn't have done that if we'd got him on 9/12/01. The story behind this is going to be something.
Weather it changes anything or not, this country needed some good news and I'm thankful to get it. Congrats to the military and the Commander and Chief!
WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo, it FINALLY "went farming" (aka) "Bought the Farm" (aka) "Met Its End" (aka) "Some justice has been served" (AKA) IT'S PARTY TIME :lol::lol: And yes, im well aware that a lot still has to be done. At least this is a big step in the right direction. Oh and I forgot to mention, may "it" rest in many pieces.:lol:
I don't drink much, but I actually just took a shot of whiskey to celebrate. I used my New York shot glass that my sister-in-law bought me. This is one of those memorable moments guys!!!
Yes there is a long road to haul yet but the assets that were otherwise occupied in the search and apprehension of Bin Laden will now be freed up to switch gears and direct attention into other areas. As the information becomes available over the following days we may get an idea of just how much expenditure was spent on this one person. It was mentioned that it was a small Special Forces Team (Seals) that actually did the operation but I would bet my last dollar that there were thousands involved and millions of dollars spent over the course of years leading up to today's announcement. As Carl so succinctly put it: "IT" was probably the most highly guarded and secreted "IT" to be hunted. Over the years I have been sending emails and letters to a few special folks overseas with the simple message of Godspeed and Good Hunting, tonight I can add; Job Well Done!
Force Protection Conditions were elevated several hours ago. I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop since then.
It is a boost to our troops - and it is also a huge blow to al Qaida. All I can say is, finally. For the families of those killed on 9/11, they finally have a small bit of justice.
Darren I'm following your lead. Just poured a double Scotch Black Label ! Thanks for the suggestion It's going to be a few hours at CNN now!
I HOPE that it was in this condition below, when they found it. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$(KGrHqR,!mIE2EINU!hDBNt4jIb-Bw~~0_3.JPG :lol::lol:
"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning." - Winston S Churchill
But the question is will terrorism even slow down? all we may have done is make a martyr of the ailing bastard, and the islamic propoganda, which is excellent enough to brainwash youth into suicide bombing mission will just sit there and yawn? I only fear a worser man in his stead, who will do more damage than anyone else, someone will succeed Al Queada (or has already succeeded). Anyway may all the souls who perished under his terrorism rest in peace, and lets hope for the best. http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/02/obama-to-make-statment-tonight-subject-unknown/
I like the post but disagree with it because, "IT" was a living marytr, now "ITS" a dead martyr. Those who are insane who are the terrorists, will still be just as anic: as they always were-whether this dork is alive or not.
