HI. MY NAME IS BAZ . MY FATHER WAS A SERGEANT IN THE ROYAL ARTILLERY AND WAS KILLED AT CRETE BETWEEN 26 APRIL AND 30 APRIL 1941.I AM TRYING TO GAIN A BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF THE EVENTS HAPPENING AROUND THAT TIME.I WAS 5 YEARS OLD THEN. THANKS IN ANTICIPATION
I've heard this book recommended Amazon.com: Struggle for the Middle Sea: The Great Navies at War in the Mediterranean Theater, 1940-1945 (9781591146483): Vincent P. O'Hara: Books . I think these have pretty good reps as well: Amazon.com: Battle of Crete (9780711027589): George Forty: Books Crete: The Battle and the Resistance: Amazon.co.uk: Antony Beevor: Books and here's a listing of even more: Crete Books | History. Buy books about the history of Crete. Likely others will comment on these soon. I'm not much of an expert in this area so I'd wait until you got some more import before spending any vast sum on the above. Oh it's a bit easier to read if you turn off the cap lock. If the normal font is too small (as is getting to be the case for some of us) it can be enlarged.

Another good book is Christopher Shores Air War for Yugoslavia, Greece and Crete 1940-41. Unfortunately the retreat and withdrawl from Greece and Crete was so disorganized and rapid that most official records were abandoned in their haste. The Italians salvaged some, and one Italian had posted a good number (in Italian) on a website that unfortunantly has been down for several years now. Thus with little official records to back them up, little has been authored on this campaign. My next door neighbor was shot down and killed in Greece at this time and I have spent years in fruitless search for additional information. See John Fylton Mackie, at Mackie Ormsby If you do find good links and information, please forward them to us. Thanks! There are some decent websites that describe that awful period. He was likely evacuatated from Greece mainland, probably via southern Peloponnese in Operation Demon. http://worldwartwobalkanslevant.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html So for background and information leading up to this I suggest you look at: Royal Artillery in Crete, 1941: http://www.rothwell.force9.co.uk/crete.htm The Royal Air Force in Greece 1941 « War and Game Greece In WW2 The Levant and the Balkans WWII: GREECE CAMPAIGN (APRIL 1941) The Invasion and Battle for Greece Greece in the Second World War German invasion Greece and the invasion of Crete in May 1941: http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/battles_crete.html
Thanks to all who answered my request. Brilliant information in such a short time and plenty to keep me busy! Baz
