I think it started attracting too many "deniers" and such, so it was eliminated. At least that is what I think occurred, since as you say; "it was there, and then it wasn't."
It might have something to do with the trustees' for it not showing up anymore. If I remember correctly, Sniper1946 and Chef des Todes were working on it.
I was approached by a member, asking to create the forums and that he had content to put in the forums. What was placed in the forums was not what I understood that we were going to see. After discussion with the moderators, I decided to close the forums until we could decide a different route with them.
I am sure it was a tough call, perhaps if we could find the right format it could be restored. Perhaps with a moderator well versed in the matter, and all posts vetted before publication?
We'll reconsider it. Don't hesitate to remind me if nothing moves on it in a reasonable amount of time.
I would be in favor of having a carefully watched area for this subject (concentration camps) as it is an important good reason that our allies fought WWII that was not so fully apparent when the war began. The fact that these existed was just further evidence of the righteous reasons a war had to be fought. Deniers shouldn't be allowed to get their way on this site.
As I have noticed when answering some outrageous postings.....on some threads,..... moderators were very quick to delete their postings before I was able to answer.......therefore I conclude that there should be a Concentration Camp ongoing discussion as that is an integral and necessary memory to properly respect and remember those who were made to suffer the injustices performed by our fellow man in search of their perceived solutions. I likewise point out that opposition to the use of the Atomic Bomb is fairly prevalent yet we are able to intelligently and accurately depict the good reasons for its use. We don't simply eliminate A-bomb discussions as has been done with the Concentration Camps. Moderators can simply censor and eliminate offensive postings if they step out of reasonable bounds. There is my 2 cents and you can throw me in the stump if you want. If this forum can't handle Holocaust subjects, it can't stand very tall as a WWII forum. As I view some forces in our politics.....the solutions are still desired by certain portions of our population and we have a responsibility to see to it that a past such as this .......is not repeated by doing our part to inform and educate.
Really I think there should be a war crimes section that can include any thing that has to do with any kinds of crimes done by any nation, rather than just simply a concentration camp section. That way it opens up to more discussion to whoever wants to talk about it, and therefore concentration camps can be included as well.
They have a warcrimes sub forum over on the axis history boards but it's my impression that it is a pretty labor heavy forum for the admins. Keeping things on track and civil is a nontrivial exercise and there are a few posters that might be classified as deniers that have learned how to play by the rules for the most part. In theory I like the idea of such a board but then I don't have to moderate it.
That's the main reason I stopped frequenting it. My nerves couldn't hack being a moderator over there.
