I've joined a few WW2 forums recently but this one seems to have more American-based participants. I'm continuing "A World At Arms" which I actually started last summer; maybe I'll finish this summer. I'm 36 and have had an interest in the war and the general culture of the 30s and 40s since I was an early teenager. Not sure why, as I have no direct connection to the war. My dad served in Vietnam but neither of my grandfathers served. I have letters my great-uncle wrote during his time in the service but I haven't read them in years. Not even sure he ever made it overseas. My main hobby is old time radio which coincides with the war era, of course. I enjoy writing articles in the area and just signed a contract for my second book. I'm a public school teacher so with a couple months off now I have a lot of time for reading and writing. I don't have particular interests within the WW2 field. I'm really enjoying Weinberg's "big picture" approach. Not so much interested in the minutia of specific battles and such. I'm located in eastern Kansas (Lawrence) if there are other enthusiasts in the area. I probably won't post much but look forward to learning a lot. Ryan
Glad to have you aboard Ryan. Feel free to ask any questions you might have, and share whatever you can.
Welcome! If you're like me you'll learn a lot here. The "Oz" part of your name made me think you were Australian at first, then I read Kansas and it clicked. Just for fun, though, here's a link to a bunch of Australians who also like old radio equipment. I was a member for a few years.
It's a profile of black radio performers from the 1920s to 1950s. Should hopefully be out this fall with McFarland, which does WW2 material as well. I do cover a few all-black or mostly black WW2 era programs created by the Armed Forces Radio Service or some of the military branches themselves.
