The pals are sleeping out tonight preparing for the early morning fight
Will they be there with wasted gun and resting in the watching mid-day sun
‘Come along with me son, I’ll show you the way’
‘You stick by my side now, no matter what I say’
‘We will need a little luck to get us through the nightmare of the day’

Then the whistle blew again............. and we all began to pray
‘So stick here by my side son, no matter what I say’
Come along with me lad, I’ll show you the way’
The boys had now just entered............ a man made raging hell
Deafened by the dreadful noise...... and the bursting of the shells

‘Has anyone seen tommie Boy?’ the frantic Sergeant cried
‘Not since we went over’, a liverpool pal replied
Then a young voice shouted out....... ‘Sarge I’m over here’
‘I think I’ve took one in my side’.....’I can feel my mother near...’

‘It’s nothing but a scratch son’.....’You will be alright’
You will soon be ready again...........to take on the next fight’
When the stretcher bearers came, the sun was going down
They took him to the dressing trench, and laid him on the ground

tommie Boy now he bled out, and died just where he lay,
Along with all the other men, who also died that day
The sergeant he was heart broke........ for tommie was his son
He was after sweet revenege....and sought to kill someone

The sergeant never got the chance that he was looking for
As a German gunners bullet sent him crashing to the floor
And just then in the white light.... a young sweet boy appeared
An outstretched arm, a smiling face.....a voice that he had heard

Come along with me dad, I’ll show you the way
They’ll be no more suffering or pain for us today
We’ll be meeting up with Pals........a little later on
They’ll be resting every one.....in the watching mid-day sun

Come along with me dad, I’ll show you the way
Stick along with me dad, no matter what I say

And as the sun sets....no soldier wins in a bloody war!
