ALERT!!! ===> ON MILITARY CHANNEL AGAIN TONIGHT. <=== ALERT!!!

633 Squadron has been on my radar screen: The Calgary Mosquito Society
    The de Havilland Mosquito Page

The Military Channel just announced that they will be featuring the movie 633 Squadron on Saturday November 12th.

My interest is rather perked. I have never heard of this movie before.
Secondly, it features my favorite warbird: the Mosquito.

"Authentic period aircraft were used instead of models or special effects to recreate the aerial sequences."

"Eight Mosquitos were primarily used, five airworthy and others that could be taxied on runways or used as set dressing. The airworthy TT 35 Mosquitos were converted to resemble a fighter-bomber variant (FB Mk VI). The TT 35 models had their clear nosecones and side windows painted over and dummy machine gun barrels fitted. One airworthy Mosquito was a T3 with a solid nose which only required the fitting of dummy gun barrels. It lacked the two-stage Merlin engines, V-shaped windscreen and bulged bomb bay of the TT 35s. At least one surplus Mosquito was destroyed in a simulated crash scene."

    633 Squadron on now.
40 minutes in, awesome scene of a Luftwaffe tip and raid run on their airdrome.
this after as series of just terrific Mosquito flying scenes. Just terrific. No wonder its top rated as a film in the UK!

+ + + very respectful role for service men from India. Thumbs Up!!!

At the end of WW2, surviving Officers of the Armed Forces of India were allowed and encouraged to immigrate to anywhere they wanted in the British Commonwealth
My neck of the world, British Columbia Canada is Chock-a-Block with them and they have been just an awesome good addition to our nation. 3 of them top my best friends list.

Some reviews slammed this movie. Boy oh boy, are they ever on my permanent ignore list now!!! I LIKE. I LIKE. I Like.

633 Squadron is a near-legendary film but tainted by the fact that the producers were very 'rough' with the Mossies. The script, it must be said, is very 'creaky' but some of the shots early in the movie ( when the Squadron is training over the Scottish highlands ) are superb...the real deal.

Also noteworthy is the 'sequel' Mosquito Squadron which features an even worse script and some very dodgy acting. However, the opening credits capture the very last time in history that four genuine Mosquitoes flew together - anywhere.:(

Its an excellent movie. I think they even mentioned the Polish pilots in there (or there was someone with a Polish accent in one of the bar scenes). Talk about a hat-tip to a group that got royally screwed over.

Core Blimey Lou Diamond Phillips, but you don't half give American's a black eye now and then!!!

The Scene is set. 1944... And Lou Diamond Phillips thinks the USA is not in the war yet... sigh....

But I have to sign off with Kuddo's to Lou Diamond Phillips:
For once, for the very first time, he has a knowledgeable guest, whose insight and comments are dead not only relevant, but right on target, and poignant.
    Nicely done!

Mosquito Squadron was not a sequel but an independent production. 633 Squadron is based on the book by Frederick E Smith, and the books are very, very good. There are about 9 titles and well worth reading. My favourite scene is the one at the start of the film when the squadron arrives back from a mission and they all scream over the airfield and then peel of to land. The sound alone makes it worth watching!

To be honest, I must admit I preferred Mosquito Squadron to 633 Squadron.
