At least that is what it looks like. Why Is China Building These Gigantic Structures In the Middle of the Desert? (Updated) Tried also to find the massive mock up of the Himalayas? they made a few years back. It was really big.
A clever ploy by the Chinese to get the aliens to land there rather than the south lawn of the White House, which they would deny there has ever been contact anyway. Think about it Grog would fly past earth, scratch above his middle eye with his third hand and say WTF? Well I guess we will have to land on this podunk planet and ask them if they had thier cranium stuck up thier defacating oriface!
Found this too:Huge Scale Model of Disputed Border Region of China Found in Google Earth | Google Earth Blog China is scary.
Seems like a calibration grid. The lines correspond with the terrain...you are trying to scan something using a new peice of technology...how do you know the (from orbit) scan is accurate?
Yeah and there are alot of people in China...a claytons Disney Pit? Hmmm...Onto something there Rabid...
Go to the google map and pan to the West (left). Zoom in to 50' resolution and you can see they have more of the same "completed"? The other is nearly 200 feet wide and one is a complete square. Something that looks like an airstrip but you can make out valleys and hills crossing the clearing? No earth-moving equipment like a D-10/D-11 bulldozer in any of the photos which is also strange. Of course it could just be a giant bar code for the outstanding loans the US has with them: We fly over, snap a picture and another half trillion dollars put in our account.
As the article says here; "the plot thickens". More images from the Google Earth satellite over the Chinese mainland. Goto: China Desert Structures: More Mysterious Satellite Images Emerge (PHOTOS)
These structures have no concept coming out of it. China already has the Great Wall of China which can be seen from the outer space, i guess they are planning for something similar on the deserts.
These are most likely calibration grids for spy satellites or surveillance aircraft. That circular "crop circle" thing might be a missile or bomb target (ie: aim at the center, see how much damage things around it pick up). The long line grid could be a short-range missile range (ie: distance between 2 lines is 100m), but I don't know why they would waste the time to do that when they could just use laser rangefinders. It does seem a bit excessive to have this many calibration targets, but I can't think of what else they could be. But, the Chinese certainly have the area to do it in, the money to pay for it, and the labour to finish it.
If I had a desert, I too would litter it with enigmatic structures to set the Internet speculating. Quite jealous of China & their ability to have such fun. ~A
Exactly what I was thinking, VP...what's the greatest skill a magician/illusionist has at his disposal? Using one hand to keep the audience focused away from what his other hand is doing. "Oh holy crap, look at what crazy stuff China is doing in the desert!!!" ...meanwhile...in the mountains... As bad as the movie was, they did the same thing in "Contact", build a very highly publicized alien-machine in as visible a spot as possible, put news crews on it 24-7, get some famous faces and talking heads to do nothing but expound upon the merits/detractions of the device...and quietly put together another one in some inhospitable location. I think (and my unedumikated guess would be that the intelligence agencies around the world would also be looking in to this) this is all a front, and we'll find out that China was doing some serious James Bond-worthy nefariousness elsewhere. You know...like putting all their scientific minds in a slave think-tank to create the better mousetrap or longer-lasting lightbulb. Darn you, China, DARN YOU!!!!! :shakes fist dramatically at random spot on ceiling:
The old bait and switch eh.... If you build it, they will come...Maybe it's streets for future building plans And Now Presenting: Amazing Satellite Images Of The Ghost Cities Of China
I'd go with the calibration for space-based obs....or one other possibility directly related to it... That in some way - particularly the "ghost cities" - they're there to fool U.S. satellite observation I wonder if you looked closely, REALLY closely...somewhere nearby is there an installation that the Chinese really DON'T want anyone looking at?
