I've been doing a lot of research on memoirs written by US soldiers and I wondered whether any readers here might be able to help with more specific details on the following. I'm particularly interested in the units - ideally down to battalion, but also battles fought in. Able 8, follow me by albert tidwell – is this a memoir? Seems a collection of small unit recollections? Yikes!! Sorry about the formatting above. I've done a fair bit of 'cut and pasting' in my research but it was all tidied up, here it's all unravelled somehow?
There is Pacific Marine, by Sterling Mace. He posts here from time to time http://www.ww2f.com/honor-service-v...riflemans-combat-odyssey-k-3-5-pre-order.html Iwo by Richard Wheller. He used to post here before he died. http://www.amazon.com/Iwo-Richard-Wheller/dp/1557509220 Then there are the old standbys: Helmet For My Pillow Amazon.com: Helmet For My Pillow (Military History (Ibooks)) (9780743413077): Robert Leckie: Books With the Old Breed http://www.amazon.com/Old-Breed-At-Peleliu-Okinawa/dp/0891419063 I've read all but the first, as it is not available yet.
Thanks for those. I'm intrigued in particular by the first one and will keep an eye out for it. As a matter of interest, is there a site that caters for people with an interest/backgtound as marines? I'm keen to see if anyone has read these books and maybe I need to try the 'insiders'?
One of the veteran members on this forum recently wrote a book about his WW2 experiences. It hasn't been released yet, but it might be something that you're interested in. Amazon.com: Battleground Pacific: A Marine Rifleman's Combat Odyssey in K/3/5 (9781250005052): Sterling Mace, Nick Allen: Books
