Hello: I'am trying to locate any information on Operation Husky - when troops landed in "Augusta" Italy - July 13,1943. The family i'am researching was from Augusta & still had family there at that time. Any info & direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.
Welcome to the forum, sugarbug. I hope you will stop by the new members area and make a more formal intro. As for info on anything WW2, one cannot go wrong by checking out Hyperwar. For your particular query, you may want to peruse: HyperWar: US Army in WWII: Sicily and the Surrender of Italy There's a link to the index in between the Appendix and the Maps sections, if you're impatient like me.
Most of what I have found just states that Augusta was taken on 13 July by troops of the British 8th Army. Do a Google search for Operation Husky 1943 Augusta. I have not come across specific names.
Op Husky = Sicily. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allied_invasion_of_Sicily Op Avalanche , Op Baytown , Op Slapstick = Italy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allied_invasion_of_Italy
