    Hello all,

I just made coolest purchase of my 27 years. This is K98, all matching, shootable that I bought in Luxembourg today. please let me know what you think of this. none of the swastikas are peened out and it has no other markings on it anwhere to indicate it being captured. the ornance code is S/42 from Obendorf/Mauser and is dated 1938. it also has the original strap, but no bayonet. the guy who sold it was the son of a WWII Vet from Germany that fought in the war. I was wondering how rare it is to find a completely shootable all serial number matching rifle like this. Most of them are either serial # or shootable, but not always both. Please give me your honest opinion.

No, he is a small dealer in Luxembourg and my friend knows him. There is also another place in Brussels that I will be going to to buy a Carabine M-1 and a normal M-1. pretty exciting. Is this a pretty rare rifle?

Martin, among others here could answer your rarity question. But of curiousity, you are stationed in Germany[?],right? When your tour is over, what kind of paper work does it take to get those guns over here with you? Are you exempt from ATF forms, being in the military? Just wonder...

Yes I'm stationed in Germany but I'm just going to ship it straight back for my dad to hold. They are not excepting personal firearms in the armories right now and the license to hunt and carry a weapon in germany is ridiculously long and expensive. I only have a year left here so I'm shipping it back. i can't shoot it out here anyways. GRRRRRRrr No, I still need an ATF form 6 to ship it and an importer to ship it to. I can't just ship it with my household goods though. Sucks@!!!!

Still, can anyone answer the "rarity" question I initially stated? It has me very curious.

    Sorry, AF4L - I'd missed this thread....

These days, any good, all-matching K98 ( shooter or deact ) is getting increasingly rare.

A lot were built by Mauser in '38/'39 so the actual model is not that unusual or rare in itself.

    I always recommend this place ; -
