    Hi all,

I have a friend who is looking for sources that can help her identify better the events surrounding the death of her uncle, an Italian civilian, who was killed by US aircraft on a strafing run during World War II (this is what her relatives have conveyed to her as the cause of his death). Her initial information provided to me is that he lived in a small town between Venice and Trieste. Ideally I am looking for a source where she can do more in depth research about these unfortunate circumstances. Thank you in advance for any assistance any of you can provide.

    Kind regards,

    Steven Mercatante

What town did he live in? I have family members that lived in that area that vividly remember strafing runs from both Allied and Axis aircraft.

EDIT: Thinking about it, I personally doubt that there would be any records of it. Your best bet would probably be to find the name of the town, and contact the local municipal government.

It would help to have a more specific location and date. That would make it possible to narrow down the possible units in the area. I would also suggest looking for ground unit journals and reports as well as Air Force. If they were in the vicinity, the account might be mentioned.

Thanks for the advice guys - I will try and get her to dig up some better information and also give her your ideas.

By the way, sorry it took so long to get back to you but every time I tried coming back to the site I kept on getting a warning that this is some sort of malicious website. I remember when this happened before and don't get it. Today I ended up just overriding/ignoring the warning and of course all is fine...

    Thanks again,

    Steve

The "attack warning" has been coming up from time to time. I always ignore it.
