Greetings WW2F!I am happy to announce that my parents went to visit my grandmother who lives in New Brunswick, Canada this past weekend and I was taking to my mother today while she was in New Brunswick, she has brought home a kit bag belonging to my grandfather who was a WW2 veteran but has since passed on.I'll now be holding onto these items, and in the morning ill be seeing what's in the kit bag. If you'll remember awhile back I posted some pics from a couple kit bags my grandmother had given me, in which one bag contained a Panzergrenadier belt with buckle, and a few other items....I'm excited to see what possibly is hiding in these kit bags.I'll be sure to post here what I find :) Wish me luck WW2F

well....Not to much stuff in these bags...well...1 big thing in one of the bags, I'm not sure if its wwii related, but the bag that its in does seem wwii related. Its a huge sleeping bag made by WOODS, its 90 x 90 and looks extremely warm. I was also given a Mess Card for 1st sitting, a metal tin, which looks as if its for holding cigarettes, and what I'm most extremely happy with.......*insert drum roll*

Sounds good. I'm sure pictures will elicit more responses. Looking forward to that.

I would hope you treasure anything that belonged to him and enjoy finding out how each item was used in its day. As you think about these things, although they may be simple items, you may grow to appreciate and cherish them all the more knowing more and more about your grandfather's honorable service. I have a few things from my dad (WWII) and wish I had something from my grand daddy that served as a soldier in WWI but I am happy just to know some things and have him in my memory as I did meet him in his old age.

Oh I sure do treasure them Victor. Although I'm sad to say that when he was around I was to young to appreciate his part in history and never was into WWII history, I know nothing about his military service other than I am lead to believe, from what kit I have of his he was Armored...I'm proud to have two WWII veteran grandfathers, but both are no longer around. My dads father was in the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada and the Carleton York Regiment. I'm in possession of my dads fathers glengarry, and my moms dads armored beret. Every piece of kit I cherish because it was my grandfathers and whenever I put on my uniform, I have some of his kit and feel like he's there with me. We were really close and even now just thinking of him I'm being brought to tears and wish he was still here, he was a great man and I'm sure he'd appreciate knowing I'mA WWII living historian. He's been gone for 12-13 years and still seems like it was only yesterday I was told he passed away. Rest in peace Grandpa.
