    Hello there,
    I like to introduce myself.
On my profile you can check my backgrounds. Beside that I am the founder and webmaster of "Back to Normandy" (http://www.backtonormandy.org)
I started this website about 10 years ago, first to publish my music and films about the story of D-Day and visits to the commemorations in France.

In order to understand a bit of the liberation (form Normandy to the Baltic) of Western Europe (the period 6-6-'44 8-5-'45) I built a database which shows the places, dates, units, if possible photos with GPS coordinates (if possible) on a Google Map. This way of telling the story of D-Day and beyond seems to be a good way presenting the details (by day, by unit, by city or region, by operation) of this period, because of all the traffic and search requests. I work as much as possible to complete this database, knowing it will never be completed.
I hope to find more knowledge on this forum, just like the other forum (Back to Normandy - World War 2 Talk) where I can share my latest discoveries or questions, specially questions:). I've learned that there is so much to learn on these fora. So I hope to stay here for a long time just like ww2talk.

Welcome Fred, I probably came across your website in the past, but I cannot access it now for some reason.

I always found this website (below) useful, but it seems to have disappeared (the link will re-direct you to something less useful). It was a Czech site that had day-by-day events from D-Day to VE-Day. Not sure what its original source was -- it may have been a public document that could be found elsewhere.

Web archive gives the top pages but not the detailed 'more information'.

Yesterday, somewhere in the Netherlands one of the fibreglass cables was broken. So my server with Back to Normandy was off-line for some time.:( But it is back again. :D

Thanks for the link. I had a quick look at it and I will certainly use it.

The Back to Normandy website is far more detailed or at least will be more detailed in the coming years because of the structure.
Have a look at 1944-45 by unit or 1944-45 day by day. I hope you will understand what I mean.
A good help to work with Back to Normandy is the FAQ, How to use the website

Hope to see you back there!

Welcome. Good job on the website design - it looks great. One constructive comment would be that it loads a bit slow (for that matter the slow load time could be because of something on my end). Nevertheless, you might want to look into that with whomever is hosting your site as I have been told that if it takes more than a few seconds to load then you could lose the visitor.

Thanks Steve for your kind words.
The host of my server is really OK. Fast connection with WWW. My other websites on my server are very fast. The only thing with Back to Normandy is that there are running a lot of things at the same time. Perhaps I am spoiled with a very fast connection, that I have not noticed it. So I have a look how to improve the speed.

I can see I have lot of guest. Specially from the USA. And the bounce rate is 0%. So people can find what they are looking for. With a little patience sometimes.
But still: thanks for the advice. As I say: Building the story of D-Day - Yet will never be completed. That also means for the technical part.

Fred, I am very impressed with your considerable efforts. One can tell it evolved with much attention. I just quit work and am about done in but will take time to fully explore it.

A number of days working hard and replaced all the scripts who were not necessary. Back to Normandy speeded up real well. Also other features are available now. Hope you enjoy. At least I do. When it is all finished I will start adding new info.
