Something interesting coming. "China's great leap forward: The Flowers of War is the country's most expensive film ever and - starring Christian Bale - it proves Beijing can give Hollywood a run for its money. Here is the most ambitious and expensive film in Chinese history, shot over nearly six months by the country’s pre-eminent director — the man responsible for those impressive if impersonal Olympic ceremonies four years ago. It tells the story of a mercenary, alcoholic mortician called John Miller (Christian Bale), who finds himself in the wrong place at very much the wrong time. The Japanese are invading Nanking in 1937, killing, looting and raping without mercy." I will NOT see this movie ever!! it's just another attempt by the Chi-cons to alter history with their interpretation. Christian Bale has sold himself to the CCP as the cheap male prostitute that he is.
I know this will probably not sway your opinion, but you should really give "City of Life and Death" a try about the Nanjing Massacre, which is an excellent (though entirely depressing) Chinese film. From what I understand the specific incidents in the film are taken entirely from firsthand accounts, and I found bias and praise against both sides in different characters. Maybe not 100% accurate, but then again what movie can depict something so horrible? Worth looking into, in my opinion. As for this film, I definitely plan on seeing it
I will watch it and judge AFTER having seen it. I will therfore give it an idulgent and fair chance for accuracy. The chinese have to right to depict this horrible massacre and it should not be a tabbo because it offends the japanese. On the other hand the Chinese should not use this as a tool for political propaganda and use it ,for instance, to stir up old hatred regarding the recent territorial claims of both countries.
Perhaps this film might remind the Japanese of what they had done in China... Surely they must have forgotten as they have yet to even acknowledge it. As skip said, I will judge this film AFTER I watch it.
Usually I'm not a grammar Nazi as I make enough mistakes myself but it is 'Chi-coms' with an 'm', not an 'n'. And it should be 'Chi-cap' as in Chinese capitalists because that what they actually are, when you look beyond their rethoric and rituals.
Thanks for the grammar tip but I intentionally wrote it as Chi-cons to emphasize the Chinese as con artists.
Chi-Com makes me think of what us Yanks called the Communist grenades in the Vietnam War... most of which were not even Chinese grenades, come to think of it. Anyways, I agree with Skip and Slon, I will judge while I am seeing it and after I see it. Because I know from experience just because something is foreign doesn't make it good or bad... I've seen some dreadful Chinese movies and some really fantastic ones all the same.
City of Life and Death was one of the most depressing and magnetic movies I have tried not to watch...Excellent and disturbing, horrific and one that must be watched.
You won't like this report then mate...http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/03/opinion/another-attempt-to-deny-japans-history.html?_r=0
