I just happened upon the Central Florida WWII Museum website. On the website, I found a link to their YouTube Channel of interviews with veterans for the Veterans History Project. The veterans cover various topics like Pearl Harbor, North Africa, the Roer River, D-Day, Monte Cassino and the Siegfried Line. Among the units represented are the 1st Infantry Division, 34th Infantry Division, 501st PIR, 102nd Infantry Division, 345th Bombardment Group. The videos are supplemented with video footage and sometimes have prologue to set up the interview. If you're impatient as I am, you can skip forward to the veteran interview. Here's a sample video: Sadly, it appears that the Central Florida WWII Museum's efforts to get a permanent "bricks & mortar" location have been abandoned due to funding problems. However, they are still operating a traveling exhibit and have a Facebook page in addition to the website and YouTube Channel.
Thanks, Mehar. I encourage you to go to their YouTube Channel and watch the other videos they have there. I like listening to these first hand accounts. It helps to remind me that the war was very personal and human and not just "history".
