Greetings Someone I know asked me about an inscription on their uncles gravestone. It reads: TEC5 H&S Co 607 ORD BAM BN. We were wondering what the " BAM " stands for. Thanks for your help
I believe it refers to Base Armament Maintenance. I found this, among others, which leads me to that conclusion: 609th Ordnance Base Armament Maintenance Battalion
BAM = Base Armament Maintenance www.ddaymuseum.co.uk/documents/US-units-May-44.doc Normandy Allies - Content
In the other thread I gave a couple of links to sources that suggest Basic Automotive Maintenance. The acronym could be overloaded or it could also be time dependent.
You're right, I didn't find that. I had located the info I provided at the link PzJgr eventually posted. It shows a 603rd BAM and a 609th Base Armament Maint., all listed under ordnance. Too bad we don't have the guys MOS, that would likely provide the answer. I didn't find BAM referenced in the 2nd link you provided at the other thread?
Two thirds of the way down. Goes down numerically. Has the 607th Ordnance BN and right after the 609th BAM. Figured the BAM would be the same but could be incorrect.
PzJgr, I had found the same site prior to you posting it, we both came to the same conclusion based on it. I just didn't add the link in my post #2. In my post #6, I was referring to the 2nd link "lwd" provided here: http://www.ww2f.com/wwii-general/47974-abbreviations-acronyms-ww2-service-records-5.html#post631002 Sorry for the confusion (reading this note, I'm not sure I made it any better?)
