My name is Aly. I came up with my username 'aussyss' because I'm Aussie and female. The SS at the end of my name means more feminine, not for Waffen SS. I am 30 years of age. I was born in Australia, mothers from Australia and my father hails from Britain. I am a fan of the German military. Though I will make an effort to post on non German military threads. I would like to know more about WWII Soldiers. I would like to visit reenactments if any were in my home town. I do have an interest in Titanic. I'm not a researcher. I am only a WWII enthusiasts. Please to meet you all.
Hi Ally, welcome on this forum and enjoy your stay on this fine forum. Don't hesitate to visit our militaria sections, you'll find penty of German relics (original items we collect)
Welcome. Where in Oz do you live? Do you know of Peter Dunn's Oz at War website? Peter Dunn IMHO it is one of the best. The section I visit most is 460 Squadron RAAF The most sorties The highest tonnage The heaviest casualties The most decorations of any Squadron in Bomber Command That just tears your heart out.
Thanks. I'm from Melbourne. No, I never knew of him or his site. His website is great, thanks for the link.
You mean when its cold then hot then back to cold? Yeah its annoying. Thank you, thanks for the welcome.
Aly, don't know much about the German side but wanted to get a warm welcome in here. It's a very friendly site. Dave
Welcome! It's good to see another Aussie. If you're in Melbourne, you might consider a day-trip to the tank museum at Puckapunyal. I've been meaning to visit that for a while, but it's a bit more than a day trip from Sydney.
Dave, you bet it is. I feel like I can post mostly anything without the fear of my posts being deleted. Sentinel, Sounds interesting. Australian tanks from WWII? Thanks for the welcomes,Dave,Sentinel, lou and historian.
Welcome aboard. This is a great place. As long as posts are Rational, Respectful, and Reasonable (within reason ) there will be no Righteous Retribution. (I like alliteration.)
Yes, I fellow rules. I just like freedom of speech, within boundaries of course. Thanks for the welcome.
The forum isn't completely free. But as long as you don't disrespect any war veterans, you should get along just fine. Yes, there are some Aussie tanks from WWII there. In particular, they have the only known remaining example of the only tank designed and built in Australia - the Sentinel. Quite a coincidence that its name is the same as mine! They have about 70 tanks from many countries, but the website is a bit difficult to navigate. It's not as awesome as the tank museums in Britain, Germany, Russia, or the US - but it's the closest one to us. If I can arrange accommodation, I hope to get there soon. But it's only about 100km from Melbourne, so it's quite close to you! Information: RAAC Memorial and Army Tank Museum. Probably more interesting to tech geeks like me, but there it is.
Oh no, I wouldn't do that. I hope they were not shot by any Germans or Japanese; what a horrible experience. I bet they would have fascinating stories from WWII since we all here have a great interests for WWII. Well, never say never. Anything to do with WWII I would gladly see. Thank you for the information.
