While a few years seperate our births, the distance between our birthplaces is not so great, Mr. Gaines. I suspect that our accents are "sim'ler." It is hard to imagine that at the turn of the 20th century, Selma was the 5th largest city in the state. The homes on Dallas Avenue are still quite attractive, as is the old synagogue on Broad Street.
You better be careful messing with these girls. Regardless of how slow you think we speak, us fathers are quick with other things...
Too late... Married a Belle 24 years ago. Her father's the least of my problems. Georgia boy. He likes to sit on his back porch and tell funny stories all day long. And no story ever has a short version.
Like the shotgun for example? Interesting to hear those ladies speaking, I think I understand most of what they are saying. I remember the TV series 'Gunsmoke' from the sixties and seventies, there was this guy Festus with a peculiar accent that fascinated me.
Congratulation on that good fortune. Then he is doing it right! I'm not sure what he was. It think he was trying to be west Texas. The man who played Festus, Ken Curtis, had a part in one of my favorite movies, Mister Roberts. He played Dolan and had a far different accent.
I was born and raised in Texas and they talk like that there too! (So now I know why I married an Asian woman from Hong Kong!)
