Neat! The Kodiak Beer nickname goes back before the mauling and the book, to when I was an avid home brewer. The original Kodiak Beer was a malty extra-high-alcohol Scotch Ale with a rich brown color. It was about 10% alcohol and I used to show up with a 5 gallon soda keg at parties and "unleash the beers of war" on the unsuspecting. It was pretty devastating to people used to drinking watery American beer.
It's a neat image, but doesn't really convey how I see myself. I'm not a tough guy or a warrior, just a retired coastie who spent his whole career trying to save lives rather than take them.
Absolutely nuttin wrong with bein' a Coastie. Navy man myself, so naturally I shall have to give you a ration of sh!t from here on out, but...I still think its appropriate. Got that no-nonsense, gimme-your-worst-Mother-Nature look.
