Hello. My name is Derrick Tadlock. I am from Elmore City, Oklahoma. I'm 35 and have been interested in military history for about 20 years. I am especially interseted in WWII history. I currently am in the process of learning about my wifes grandfather who was in the 45th Brigade. His unit was Battery C 160th FA attached to the 179th infantry. I think this forum will be a great tool for research and general knowledge!
Hello Derrick and welcome. The Patriarch of your wife's family fought many battles along my uncle's division, the 36th. As far as research, you hit the goldmine ! An excellent thread for the 179th. Enjoy ! http://www.ww2f.com/italy-sicily-greece/32624-179th-infantry-regiment-after-action-reports.html
Hi Derrick. As Steve mentioned, there's a wealth of material on the 179th. I think you'll find a lot of information on it. Do a search for the 179th and I'm sure you will see it. Enjoy yourself.
Howdy Derrick, good to gave in the joint. Are you sure it is the 45th Brigade? Brigade command structures were a rarity in WWII. The 160th Field Artillery Battalion and the 179th Infantry Regiment were both constituent parts of the 45th Infantry Division.
I'll put my copy of Stanton's up now. Welcome to the forums Derrick. Come on in, the history is fine.
Thanks JW! You're right. It was the 45th Infantry Division. Now its the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Thanks for pointing that out.
Tadlock. I saw your post. if you ever come over the pond to look at what 45 US Inf Div did at Anzio then do get in touch. I run battlefield studies there two or three times a year. The activities of 157 Inf Regt, 179 Inf Regt and 180 Inf Regt in the beachhead were quite astounding. Regards FdeP
