Help with 1943 German document

Who can help me to decypher this 1943 postcard written by a Soldier based in Orleans , France.

I have no trouble with German , but this lad has written everything in the old Sütterling handwriting and that's getting much harder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Wot? Noone can read Süterling here ?

 

I know this won't help but I can make out the more obvious words like Herr, ist, ja, du, ich, auf, alles... and that's about it. I'm sure you got more than that out of it, Skipper. Sorry but my high school German hasn't held up very well over the last few decades of neglect.

 

I can read roughly half of it. I keep on trying to figure the rest out.

 

This looks to me as a very bad handwriting in stead of Suterling. Hope this guy never has written medicin priscriptions....

I thought I read" Englander" rahther than "England"

I hope Gorilla will be able to help too, if even the native Germans have forgotten their ancestors writing, it's the end of the world .

Thanks Philipp, this is great work, I'm still trying to figure out the names though the sender could be Riedel or Richel or even Riekel , so it's still challenging.

It's interesting how ironic he is when mentionning the Raf Operations ("Visits from the English") .

The word after "Franz". (Fransosen ) and before gewöhnt is "likely" an adjective. Same for the word after "ja" when he mentions the visit of the English .

 

It is "franz. Verhältnisse" and before that "Urlaub"

Only hope that this dude survived the war so he could tell homefront what he actually wrote.....

 

The contents is actually quite common. Censorship would not allow strategic information , so most documents would be how are you "I'm fine and in good health" etc... It is striking to compare them with WWI documents and see this card could have been written by the previous generation. Mainly refelct the same feeelings. "I'm far away from home, I'm worried for my loved ones and I'm trying to tell them I'm fine. I want to go home".....

The sender is talking about RAF bombing in the first part and then he mentioned the landing of the US troops in Italy ...

 

The air attack the sender is talking about was on 06th of september on Stuttgart. The assault was launched between 10:44 am till 11:10 by nearly 150 bombers. The attack claimed 107 dead, 165 wounded and 1 missing Germans.

 

Nordwind this is giving me the shivers , I was hoping this would be Stuttgart. It totally makes sense now. The most ironic fact is that in order to avoid the Kambhube line, the bombers flew south over Olreans, the place where the sender wrote his card from... Thanks a lot .

 

This is fascinating. I never would have expected that this letter would refer to identifiable events during the War. A great item, Skipper.
