Hello everybody, Some off you may already know me from other internetforums. For the people who don't a little introduction. My name is Arne Vangheluwe. I 'm an 18 year old Belgium lad. 2 of my greatgrandfathers fought in both worldwars. In ww1 one greatgrandfather as a Belgian Infanterist and in ww2 the other as an Belgian anti-aircraftgun member. That and the fact that I'm surrounded with remains off both wars made me interrested in discovering what happened. I'm not saying I know allot but I'm a huge fan off reading so most off the time I'm going to read on this forum. I'm a fan of aircrafts (I do live next door to a ww1 and ww2 airfield but more about that later.) and for the rest just ask. Friendly greetings Arne(ken) ps: My appologies for the sometimes flagrant mistakes in my English. I do admit that my speaking is much better then my writing.
Welcome Arne, you're from very interesting country where all happened once. Belgium is one of those countries I will visit someday. Take a look what we have here and give us a shout if needed.
Arne, first of all, welcome to the site. I've not been around much (Higge knows why. It's WWII research related, so I'm covered.) Anyway, you should enjoy it here. As far as that goes, I can assure you that your English is far better than my French, German, or Wallonien (do they have their own language?), so don't feel bad!!
Good on'ya Arne.....Welcome! Maybe you could give us an article or two from the Belgian perspective! Something I am fast realising is that we can find out much more from the smaller countries by their experience in fighting for/against the larger ones! The story of WW2 can often be seen more clearly from the EDGE.....
between french and Wallonien the difference is minimum. Some words are otherwise said or written. I don't really know because I'm Flemmish. Lost this site out off my eye for a moment but I'm gonna trie to look more frequent now.
Hi. I really am an oldun.' I was nine when the war started and took a keen interest in every thing. I am ex service,- all three! I was a naval messenger on the Grimsby naval base when I left school at 14. Called up for NS and was in the Royal Artillery Ack Ack. Six months after demob I was in the Royal Air force. Trained as an Electrical Mechanic. Joined 617 Squadron with Lincolns. Went on the fitters promotion course for six months and when I returned, they had traded in the Lincolns for Canberra B2s. We did a detachment to Malaya dropping 1,000 popunders on the terrs. I am now well civilised, I help my wife breeding miniature poodles ( wee have one left from the present litter!!!!. I also put one day a week at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation museum. In a nutshell, thats it. Ken.
Hello Ken and welcome here. You've had a very interesting service time, let us hear some more of it. We are, well most of us are just boys still but very interested in history of world war 2 and we love the stories. I am myself into aircrafts but anything goes
