    Hi.

I grew up during the war. I was nine when it started, looked on as an adventure, I was too young to realise all the heart break and misery that would ensue. I left school in 1944 and ended up on the Grimsby docks naval base HMS Beaver as a naval messenger. One dayh I was standing outside the fleet mail office and there was a frigate going out on patrol. There was a lot of signalling between the frigate and the Captains bridge and I asked a petty officer what was going on. He watched the signals and said there was an air raid last night and the Kittywake wants to know if jerry laid any mines, the bridge answered, "We will soon know, your first out!!!!!! When my time came for NS, I ended up in the Royal Artillery, the RAF were restricted intake. Six months after demob, I was in the RAF. Square bashing at Bridgnorth and electrical mechanic training at RAF Melksham. I was posted to 617 Squadron at RAF Binbrook and worked on Lincolns, we swapped those for the Canberra B2, we then got the B6 which we took on detachment to RAF Butterworth in Malaya dropping thousand pounders on the terrs. When demob was due I wanted to stay on but didn't have an understanding wife, Later on, like the Lincolns, I traded her in for a better model!!! Now at 78, I still manage to help out at the local Aviation Museum, I am at present making a Jet Provost look presentable. I also help my wife breeding miniature poodles.

    Thats enough for now.

Well thank you for your service friend. Both grandfathers served in WWII one in the Navy and one in the Army. The one in the Navy was present at Pearl Harbor. :tinysmile_classes_t
