Have been trying to get here for some time. Finally made it (apparently) and am looking forward to getting involved in the discussions here on the forum.
Have had a life-long interest in most facets of WWII. Not really sure why, but I've always been fascinated with it. I've written two books on the war and am currently working on a third. The primary subject of the latest project is the Mulberry Harbors of the Normandy invasion. Any information that the members could throw my way concerning any aspect of the harbors and their operation would be greatly appreciated.
As the title of this thread indicates, I reside on the west coast, California actually. Other than a couple of government funded vacations to Korea and Germany, I have spent the majority of my 6+ decades here and from what I can remember they've been pretty good years. Have been married to the same tolerant woman for 41 years and we've owned our business (a sandwich shop) for 29 of those.
As I said before, I'm glad to be here and look forward to meeting many of you.

    Pat

I'm married to a tolerant woman, also, Pat, though not as long as you.

    Welcome and jump on in.

Welcome Pat! About once a month someone joins with a smirk inducing handle, you are this months winner for me. Appropriate too given your restaurant. So down to business, please tell us what your books are and post links here. You should probably know we are working on expanding our book section here, with a special status given to authors. Post your work and I'll be sure your profile is properly assigned when the time comes.

I think this place is being overrun with people west of the Mississippi!

Seriously, welcome to our new format. Most of us are just getting used to it. I'll second Otto's suggestion that you post links to your books. I seem to recall a couple of threads on Mulberry harbors. Look around, and I'm sure you'll find them.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Don't have site for the books, so I don't have link to post. Wouldn't know how to post it even if I had one. Information concerning both is available at Amazon.com. The titles are "Watson's Really Big WWII Almanac" volumes 1 and 2. The working title of the third project is "Mulberry and More". Hope to publish it next year.

    Take care,
    Pat

Please feel free to post links. As I said previously in this thread, we are creating a specific area and features for authors. You'll be able to make this site a site for your books, in the meantime just copy and paste the links, we're happy to give you exposure.

Welcome. I, too, am a "left coaster" born and raised in S. CA; I am also a vet of the 2d ID, one of the most rewarding and toughest tours of my career.
I went back to CA after I retired and couldn't leave fast enough! It was a great place to grow up in the 50's and 60's but I couldn't live there now, although I still have a son there.
I had the great sense to "go to Texas" and now live the life of a "retired country gentleman".

When were you with the 2nd? My tour was '69-'70.

    Take care,

I did two tours in the ROK, the first was with the 1st Bdg of the 2d ID in '83-84; the second was as 1SGT of an MI Co in Seoul during the '88 Olympics.
I have a great deal of respect for the South Korean's and what they have accomplished with their country.
