I recently completed a short bio on Capt. Nicklas and we have posted it on our website. With some very good luck (and one very helpful genealogy researcher), I was able to establish contact with his daughter, Carol, last fall and we began the process of researching his life. We've both learned a lot about her father, who she last saw when she was 4 years old. I'm proud to have been a part of telling the story of Capt. Nicklas' sacrifice. Here's a link to the bio: http://tankdestroyer.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=631:nicklas-j-laverne-607th&catid=1:honorees&Itemid=60 Forum member CAS took the lead with the ABMC as we attempted to get the grave marker spelling corrected. As mentioned in the bio, we have received word that the marker will be replaced in the future. He has also worked with Carol and we are hopeful that she will be able to establish contact with the adopter's of her fathers grave.
Very nice write up, Steve. I'm also pleased to hear that the marker will be corrected. Please be sure to let us know when it has been replaced.
As I told Natman, I finally got the premission to forward Carol's email adress to the adoption foundation, I did so last wednesday. I know for a fact that the grave is adopted by local people, and more important is visited by the adopters, as I personally saw at Memorial Day 2013 the grave of Capt. Nicklas was decorated with a beautifull bouquet of flowers. I'll post the photo when I have got some time this weekend.
