We tend to think of Omaha beach for the American landings, where they had lots of problems. Yet, if they had landed at Utah beach, a unit might well have been bopping around the French countryside shortly after landing.
It gets better as time goes on I watched this one last night. Leonard Nimoy crewing a .50 on a Dodge WC-30 and acting as a German intreperter. Who could ask for more? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0544606/
Note also, that in the first couple of seasons the German troops are armed with at least some G43's as well as K98's and MP40's. That's quite accurate for the summer of 44, and something you won't see in other films or TV shows then or now. The other German accouterments seem to be accurate as well - the bread bags hanging from the belt, etc. All of that disappears about the 3rd season and from then on the Germans are using the standard Hollywood dictated arms and gear. Hollywood doesn't know what a G43 or an STG44 is.
Aaah, that's probably true and didnt' think of it that way. However, when they were in the Higgins Boat, The seargent said, "Hey look at our rangers at Pointe Du Hoc". Then they showed some footage of guys scaling a cliff. I suppose that didn't necessarily mean they were at Omaha. Anyways... You make a good point. But the way the were walking through the woods to get to the farmhouse, it was just a little hokey. Talking loudly, acting like it was a stroll in the park a little bit. That sort of a thing.
After watching the first disc, I was not really all that impressed. I suppose it has some entertainment value. But I thought it was kind of hokie. The last episode I watched had a replacement that was from Kentucky and he kept talking about how he didn't want to dig a fox hole and he was going to fight the germans standing up and not laying down. And you figured he was going to get it. But then they turned him into some big hero. That's just dumb. Yeah, don't dig a foxhole. OK. Pffffft...
