What's the primary difference between this board and WW2talk?

I'm a relative newcomer but it appears to me that WWIIF is more of a US board and WW2talk is more UK oriented. Is this an accurate perspective?

Yes, you got it right. The "talk" is more British/Commonwealth oriented, and the forum here is more US oriented. Good information to be had over there, but you might have to use a British Slang Dictionary to understand what they are saying sometimes. Try conversing with urqh to get an idea how different the Queen's English is than Standard American English.

Bobby is right. (Never thought I'd say that.) WW2talk is more British/Commonwealth centered. WW2F is more US centered. That might be generally true, but there is some cross-over. There are some here that are on both boards. That gives them a more rounded view of the war. There is, however, a difference of opinion on a variety of topics. I would recommend that both boards together give one something to think about.

Also they only serve Spam! Spam on toast, Spam on crisp's, Spam and kipper's...well you get the idea.

oh, and don't interrupt them during tea time, they become very cross. :)

I'm a member of both, but I admit that I rarely visit WW2Talk. It doesn't have the same sort of 'atmosphere' as WW2F. That being said, there were some excellent threads over there last time I logged on. If I had more time I'd actively follow both.

The big plus for WW2Talk is that there's a couple of active WW2 Vets on the membership role (and some of our WW2F vets, including Sapper and Ron Goldsmith, are much more active over there)

One big "cultural difference" is Brits consider bringing politics into a conversation rude.

Agreed - all dry "facts". Opinions especially if outlandish are soon stamped on.

Never any debate and never any "what ifs" (although most "what ifs" are stupid, sometimes there are some real pearls of knowledge and wisdom to be gained)

Really boring - shame really as one of my interests is 1940 and there are obviously more experts on WW2 talk

Talk has access thru its knowledgeable members to in depth research...mostly on Commonwealth issues..but leaves the opinions elsewhere. Which
is a good thing in my view. As most visit for information needs not to discuss the health of the nation...Scipio is on the ball with his comments.

1940 threads should be pinched by the Imperial War Museum in my view..they are that good and so well researched.

I am a member of both and hope you don't mind me correcting you but there are a few more Veterans on there who do contribute regularly.

already mentioned:Ron Goldstein and Sapper (Brian)

    Tom Canning
    Gerry Chester
    Joe Brown

They bring a wealth of knowledge to the forum.

    Did someone mention tea?

Odd, isn't it ? I never drink tea and haven't had any Spam since school dinners in the early 1970s.......

Actually, the old saying is 'never discuss politics or religion in polite company'......it's not so much being considered rude, it's more that those subjects frequently polarise personal beliefs from which individuals cannot/will not be budged by reasoned discussion.

therefore, someone is almost certain to end up feeling offended.......

See, that's what I mean. They say they speak English over there but then they throw in these foreign words just like they make sense.

Listen, we invented the language. We can make up the rules as we go along.

You may have invented it; but, "WE" taught you how to use it.
