Explain your Avatar - copied from ww2talk.com - http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/19392-explain-your-avatar Ok its simple, whats the story behind your current avatar? Why did you choose it? Mine relates to my Dad. (Info in my sig.) http://www.members.shaw.ca/ASovereign/Art.html This avatar is the picture of him that was used for the Wall Murals project found throughout the downtown area of the City of Vernon BC Canada. http://www.vernonmurals.ca/ His image is on the south side of the Staples Department store, the second from the right here: His father, Bishop Arthur Henry Sovereign is depicted in the middle of this mural, dedicated to Sovereign Lakes Nordic Ski Hill. - The family resemblance is obvious... The Kalamalka Lake Mural as depicted from my uncles property at the south (Oyama) end of the lake.
In my other life I am hard core into Hang Gliding and Paragliding. These are my Avatars elsewhere... just in case you happen to trip over me on your travels... I really relate to a gaggle of gliders caught in a dust devil, and the serenity of a Paraglider and a Hang Glider sharing a Blue Thermal. . .
Mine is my father, Ernest Illingworth, only 19 when he went to war. My signature explains the theatres of war he was in. Lesley
Eric Sykes and Spine Millington. Found the picture when Eric died, they are comedy geniuses. I change it and my signature regularly to suit my mood. My signature is usually song lyrics, currently "Going underground" by the Jam.
Mine is the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 30th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized), worn by a dear friend, Marion Sanford. The 30th Recon was part of the 30th Infantry Division, which was known as "Old Hickory." I was honored last year in assisting Mr. Marion in the writing and publication of his autobiography, Old Hickory Recon, Memories of the 30th Infantry Divisions, 1943-1945.(2012, Schweinhund Publishing)
Well, mine is me sitting at my drawing board, something I do a great deal. There is no plausible explanation for the bored expression, obviously a countenance at odds with my to my otherwise exuberant self !!!! Perhaps my evil wife of 50 years photoshopped it to erase my perpetual smile........... She is a true sweetheart for putting up with me!
I've changed mine a number of times also. The current one is the Battle Flag of the 39th Georgia Volunteer Infantry in which my great-great-grandfather and a couple of his brothers fought during the War of Northern Aggression. I'm using it at the present time to commemorate the various 150th Anniversaries of the war.
My avatar is the cover of my recent book. The story of getting mauled by a Kodiak bear a few years ago. My old Avatar, and the one I'll return to when sales begin to slump on the book, is my father in January, 1945, in Belgium. He was one of "Roosevelt's SS" the 30th Infantry Division.
Sometimes I give myself the creeps, Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me. It all keeps adding up, I think I'm cracking up. Am I just paranoid? Or am I stoned? Some people think they're really clever To smash your head against the wall Then they say "you got it my way" They really think they know it all It doesn't make it alright It doesn't make it alright It's the worst excuse in the world And it, it doesn't make it alright Just because you're a black boy Just because you're a white It doesn't mean you've got to hate him It doesn't mean you've got to fight The time has come To say fair's fair To pay the rent To pay our share The time has come A fact's a fact It belongs to them Let's give it back
My mom when she was 11 years old in 1941 with her uncle George Matrafailo in Blauvelt, NY. He was about to leave for Schofield Barracks in Hawaii and was there during the Pearl Harbor attack on Dec 7. He survived the battle and the war.
For most of my tenure here my avatar has been an image of the USS Texas at her display birth, mostly as it is the closest piece of the war to where I live and because it seemed to give urqh the heebee geebee's. I then employed an image of a classic comedian W.C. Fields in honor of my title as "The Court Jester". I currently employ a image of the Seal of the Prime Minister of Japan in honor of my alter ego in the Pacific War simulation.
My avatar is the shoulder patch of the unit my father most associated himself with, the 473rd Infantry. It was part of the 5th Army and he spent the war in Italy.
Mine is of Clive"killer"Caldwell...although he hated the killer tag. 28 kills of all nationalities...developed shadow shooting, was courtmarshalled for grog running... So many Avatars are great on this forum...i especially like the pics of Fathers, most are cool pics of them too...a good pose. gtblackwell's reminds me of Spike Miliigan...was he a kiwi? Where was that legend from?
Mine is of two US Cruisers Demonstrating oil fog and funnel smoke. Just a random neat photo I sanned in at the National Archives.
