Hi, Glad I've found this website, hoping I can be pointed in the right direction..... I'm in need of some help in trying to research my grandad. He was in the 1st Bn KOYLI during ww2. Thanks, Michael
Welcome Aboard Michael! Why not try putting Kings's Own Yeomen Light Infantry (?) into our search engine or its parent division and see what may pop up!
Hello Michael. Welcome to the forum. If you're referring to the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, here's a good place to start http://www.doncaster.gov.uk/sections/leisureandculture/museumsandgalleries/doncastermuseumandartgallery/King_s_Own_Yorkshire_Light_Infantry_Museum.aspx Contact them and see if they can help. There is also a brief history here http://www.britisharmedforces.org/li_pages/regiments/koyli/kingyork_index.htm
Michael. 1 KOYLI were one of the battalions in 15 Infantry Brigade which was itself part of 5 British Infantry Division. Known as The Globetrotters, this Division served in Italy in 1943-44. It was one of the Division's involved in the crossing of the Garigliano to the west of Monte Cassino on 17 Jan 44. From there, after the Anzio landings went belly up, they were moved to that beachhead. If your father served in 1 KOYLI, his war was a largely unpleasant one. Regards FdeP
