Never having tasted any corned beef since ww2 I have difficulty in answering that

However, the corned beef of ww2 always had white congealed fat resting on top of the meat and just thinking about it today invokes utter nausea

The Russians seem to have had a good sense of humor, along with a positive attitude towards anything that would help them kill fascists. They called the Lee tank the 'coffin for seven brothers' and, to be fair, their LaGG-3 fighter, made largely of wood, the 'varnished wood coffin'. But they won the war.

Better check the expiration century on that Spam

 

The expiration date is November of 2015. Five cans left now.

 

Sounds a lot like "Potted Beef" they sell in those little cans (mainly because no one can digest larger ones).

I doubt the Spam itself is a cause of diabetes. More likely, it's a general indicator of diet, habits, income, and so on. The poor are at greater risk and if you eat a lot of Spam you probably have a low income, Indian or not.

I have to confess that spam is my first choice under the following conditions: that is if the conditions are all met:

1. There is no tuna or sardines left in the groceries.
2. There is no more frozen stores of meat of any kind left in the freezer.
3. There are no other processed meats available to eat.
4. Some undesirables are present to help me eat my foods.(I couldn't ask my friends to eat it)
5. Hunts for rabbits and other game birds have been unsuccessful.
6. The tin cans of oysters are all gone.
7. I can't go to Arby's, Subway, or other vendors of processed meats or meat sandwiches.

As you have expressed in your suggestions....you can put lipstick on this part of the pig but in effect it is still lipstick on the processed pig.

 

Some people just don't know good eatin.

 

I'm thinking about making a spam cake on my next stretch of days off, just for the fun of it. I'll substitute spam for baloney in the baloney cake recipe. I was never a fan of baloney. We ate tons of it in the old days when we were poor. My brother still remembers it fondly though. He had this thing called a "delcious sammich" that consisted of two slices of bread, two slices of baloney and an extremely huge dolop of catchup. Ewwwwwwwww.

 

As it is probably easier here to come by a can of spam than to find road kill..........when you go to Walmart there are pyramid piles of it in cans and often it is on sale.....being a high volume item here, where Gallup (a 20k city) sells to the weekend estimated to be over 100k in population, due to several area reservations......you can go to the flea market where the burritos at times are cheaper than other times and you may find spam as a periodic ingrediant in the locally developed "burrito" as a favorite is diced Spam with scrambled huevos, possibly in camo for cover(green chile). Look for them selling out of a red and white cooler. If you can taste the spam then you know it probably doesn't have the myriad variety of cheaply acquired animoux as an ingrediant to satisfy the local carnivorous appetites. Perhaps you may like to stop by just to sample the cuisine.....no one will say anything about your tastes in spamish meats.

(That's how the big supermarket chains here in the UK get their cheap petrol for their own-brand filling stations - they buy up government "bunkered" fuel that has to be constantly renewed on a rolling basis once the volatiles begin to apporach a certain minimum level due to outgassing Hence a lot of suers complaining that supermarket "gas" isn't as good in their engines as "branded" petrol....it literally isn't as good!)

 

Not sure that would apply to the deer but the Bear .... well make sure you've got some rounds that will handle them.
