And I got a point against me for bad language.

What's with this site? I questioned how anyone could complain about Churchill's action at Mers-el-Kébir, and now the thread is gone.

Granted, I called Roosevelt a d**khead compared to my hero Churchill (and I'm an American), but why was the complete thread deleted?

The answer is simple . We have a search engine and we don't need bar language on this forum .

Free speech is one thing, respecting forum rules and showing some education is not bad either.
We have schools using our data and if we have rude words in their search engines, it's not the best thing for any of us.

Sounds reasonable to me - besides I always thought Roosevelt was the clever one and Churchill the d*head

Actually Ira7, you also compared FDR to a rectal orifice as well as stating he was a reproductive organ. It is possible to defend almost any argument without the use of vulgarity or excessively provocative terms.

    A little civility please.

Ira7, feel free to criticize historical figures but do it in a tactful way. Using invectives and insults are not the best approach.

The First Amendment does not protect language that is offensive to others. More often than not we encourage members to "wear their big boy pants"; however, that does not absolve other members from being polite and conducting themselves in the manner deemed appropriate by the management.

If you find this as being too restrictive of your "Freedoms" please feel free to go someplace else.

Actually what the First Amenment does is limit government restrictions on free speech. That would include offensive language. However it does not protect it on private property which is what this board is. The owners of this board have the right to set limits on what forms of speech they find acceptable and to sanction those that violate those limits. The 1st Amendment does not apply.

While it is the "private property" of Otto, it remains a public venue and is subject to the same laws as any other public gathering pace.

Yes, the playground belongs to the Ottomeister. He just lets us play here at his discretion. Bullies and snot nosed kids with potty mouths have to go to the cooler or find another playground to go to. Like it or not, it's simple as that.

Ive found that banning or frowning on curse words forces the user to actually think, actually express themselves...i'd seem like a second grader if i was allowed to swear, very basic....fun....but basic.

No that is fine by me - constitution or no constitution.

I try never to be abusive but there have been a couple of contributors who have been dishonourably discharged and I always wonder why! A couple (although provocative) added a lot to some of the debates.

I'd like to see any documentation you have on that. It's certainly not my understanding. Indeed some "public gathering" places have far different rules than others. If you don't believe me try reciting a campaign speach during a crimianl trial.

Oh Good Grief!!!!....The expression of your rights can not infringe on the rights of another and that expression can not be done in a malicious or disruptive manner.

If two people have a shouting match who is infringing on whose rights? Furthermore if on private property the owner has every right to evict them. Forums whether public or private, real or virtual, may have rules that restrict what can be said and how. The first amendment mearly limits what governement can do about it and only in areas subject to US laws.
