Hi All, I should have joined this forum years ago. I've long had an interest in WW2, especially given that my grandfather fought in the Pacific Campaign as a BAR gunner with the US 27th Division from 1943-1945. My avatar is his portrait. I'm hoping to learn more about his service and his unit's experience during the war. I have done extensive research and have amassed quite a bit of data these past 10 years. Grandpa has been gone for 28 years now and I only wish I had gotten him to share more of his stories. Fortunately I inherited most of his war memorabilia and have been able to put together quite a picture of his life during the war years. I hope my ongoing search yields more.
Welcome, Chris. Glad you found us. Can you post what you have? We'd be interested to know what you have discovered and where you got it from. We're curious, you know. It should be our motto.
Thanks all. Lou, I don't know if it is because I only recently joined the forum but I can't seem to upload any pictures yet. Maybe I'm still in my probationary period or something but it tells me I can't. I'd like to share the photos my granddad took while in the Pacific. I'm fortunate to have some remarkable photos and also the secret operations map, Japanese flag and bayonet he captured. Once I'm able I'll be happy to post some interesting stuff.
Christopher, perhaps the pictures are too large. Try a hosting site like Photobucket and just copy the pictures in.
Haha, CAC. Granddad was actually a gentle soul. Amazing that they gave him the job of a machine gunner! The war took a toll on his psyche as it did many others. He was really quite an intellectual, science-junkie kind of guy. He started inventing stuff after the war and had a fascination with machinery. He eventually opened his own copier machine business in the early 1970s and spent his off time in his workshop just building stuff. I was always amazed at how crafty and ingenious he was. And to think, he never even went to high school!
Very interesting set of photos. Thanks for sharing. PS Also looked at some of your other sets of photos, very nice.
Welcome the the Forum, Christopher. Very happy to have you aboard. Thanks for sharing your grandfather's photos.
