Differences between the ETO and the PTO

does anybody have any data on PTSD rates in the PTO and ETO as well as casualty ratio? Didn't Okinawa have 2:1 American to Japanese deaths?

Also, what about the Australians during this war, did they ever fight side by side with other troops like the ETO?

the ratio of American to Japanese deaths was ~1:10 (12,000+ to 110,000+)

 

i wonder what the ETO soldiers thought of the PTO?

 

The Pacific was looked upon as the "bush league" by those in the ETO. The impression being that the Germans were the superior soldiers and were better armed and equipped, thus they were the "major" league.

 

I don't know if that's true. My grandmother had four brothers that served, two in Europe (one with Patton, one with the 6th Cavalry) and two in the Pacific. When they all got together they usually spoke as if the two Pacific veterans had it worse.

 

Was this said by the Generals?

 

I am inclined to agree. The military strategy facing the Pacific forces was in total contrast to to the European theater. The island hopping and use of naval forces were on display. It was an entirely different campaign strategy wise. In regards to brutality and culture, although not the same, there are basic fundamental principles of both the Nazis and Japanese ideology that, in my opinion, puts the savagery on a level playing field in both theaters. Yes, the Japanese were brutal to their POW's, far worse than the Germans, but let's not forget the genocide each country tried to inflict on both sides of the globe.
