Hello Guys! My name is Koen and i live in the Netherlands. I recently had the honor to adopt my first grave at Margraten cemetery. This is a huge cemetery for american soldiers that died in WOII in and near the Netherlands. I really like to keep the memory of that soldier alive! I am trying to get as much information (photo's, relatives, stories or military records) as possible. so far my own search wasn't really successful. I was hoping i could get some help from you guys! My intention is to dedicate a webpage to this soldier to honor him end keep his memory alive. My friend has a website that honors fallen american soldiers, and he has reserved a spot for my soldier! So everything you guys can come up with is welcome! Welcome Koen and thank you for adopting a U.S. grave at Margraten. I hope some of our members will be able to help.
Thanks for the kind words! Its an honor and a privilege to adopt a grave, and if its up to me it will not be my last! I hope to get some reactions!
Koen, I have an Ancestry.com account and researched McGinnis Whitlow today. McGinnis's first name is either Rooker or Rucker and he was born Dec. 20, 1925 in Patrick County, Virginia. It looks like he also had a brother, Belvie Guernsy Whitlow that was born Dec. 18, 1924 and was killed on Anzio Beach, Italy on May 31st, 1944. I will keep searching.
Welcome to the Forum, Koen. Thank you for honoring Pfc Whitlow. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.
Hi Koen. Glad you could join us. Although I have no relavant information for you, I hope you have success in your quest and will keep us informed.
Koen, I have located the great-niece of PFC Whitlow. I am also sending you a message, if you could please contact me. I'll put you in contact with her. Dot
He died during the Battle of the Hürtgenwald probably near Kesternich. AAR: http://home.scarlet.be/~sh446368/aar_311th_jan_5.htm On June 14 and 15 there will be a commemoration in the Hürtgenwald near Raffelsbrand for Robert Cahow. He was also in the 311th IR and went MIA untill his body was found in 2000. I have heard that a few 78th ID veterans will be at this commemoration.
Welcome koen_verbakel! Very glad to have you here. Please post the link to your friends website, and please be sure to keep us updated on your progress with Mc Ginnis Whitlow.
