Way too claustrophobic for me. "Britain’s only surviving Second World War-era submarine has been restored in a £7m project. HMS Alliance, which is based at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport, Hampshire, was one of 14 A-class submarines launched in 1945, the last year of the conflict. Bill Handyside, 86, who served on the boat between 1956 and 1958, said it brought back memories. “You worked hard, and played hard. I look back on it fondly,” he said." http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/the-old-alliance-second-world-warera-submarine-restored-9224787.html
Gordon, The WW 2 US Drum is a museum sub several hundred miles south of me. When I went through it I thought it extremely claustrophobic that is until I went through U 505, the series 9 sub on display in Chicago. It made the Drum feel like a cruise ship.....well slight exaggeration. I can only imagine what a 7 must have been like. One of the most interesting scenes in "Das Boat" was when it was fully provisioned. I know it was a mock up but was made to scale. I cannot begin to image how horrifying they must have been. Gaines
that's why they were called "Pig Boats" but, on the serious side it is nice to see that history is being preserved and not forgotten.
