If you were a movie director, and were making a WWII film, what would it be about and why?

Is that a bad thing he asks...
The Crowes are a large and famous kiwi family...mostly for sport. Can't have a kiwi playing an Aussie! I know half the 'Americans' on US television are Australians playing Yanks...but that's ok : )

AU collects tax because RCrowe pretends he is AU...Every time someone overseas says: g'day, no worries etc etc, AU collects a small dividend.

We are currently filing for payback on the much overused (without permission): take off, eh, hosehead, etc etc.

A fine film might be the battle of Kiska. The Japanese had already left because it was apparently one of those group tour things where they just stopped in and took a few pictures, then got back on the bus to head to Guam or some other damned place. But, not knowing this the Americans hit one beach and the Canadians hit another and they spent a fun afternoon killing each other. This is easy to understand because each side had different shaped helmets and the first thing they taught you in boot camp back then was to shoot anyone with a funny shaped helmet.

The Americans killed 58 Canadians, while Canadians only killed 24 Yanks. A clear win for the Americans. USA! USA! USA!

After the battle, the Americans had a big bacon fry to celebrate, which just made the Canadians feel even worse.

I believe that the US military blends the two systems.

Are you sure of your figures?

I've read elsewhere that there were 4 Canadian fatalities and 30 wounded vs 28 US mortalities. This excludes the American naval casualties resulting from a US ship running into a mine and sinking. This took three days. When the final pullout was effected several months later the final casualty figure was 313.

    http://www.canadaatwar.ca/battle/world-war-ii/165/kiska/

When one considers that there were 35,000 troops engaged and that only 4500 of them were Canadian (700 from the 1st special service force, the later nicknamed "Black Devils") and that US troops were also shooting at each other, one could be tempted to conclude that Americans really can't shoot straight, couldn't one?

Oh, and I've also read that the Canadian troops were wearing borrowed American helmets for this operation.

Actually, I'm not at all sure of the figures - they vary by source. It's my understanding that most of the ground casualties were from booby traps left by the Japanese with most of the remainder due to friendly artillery and naval fire in the wrong places due to muddled communications and a lack of coherent maps. I just threw the whole thing in to poke at Poppy.

As for Canadian vs American military conflicts, you guys did come down and burn Washington in 1812. Most of us will look the other way if you decide to do that again.
