If you listen to the audio, the one fellow perfers "Happy Holidays" because he is not religious. I'm pretty sure that means "Happy Holy Days"? Anyhow the poll would indicate that 90% of the people perfer "Merry Christmas" so if you are a store I would think that you would want to make the majority happy, especially since those are the ones buying gifts. It's Christmas , so to Hell with the 10% . Our secular tradition that is being currently jeopardized in the western world. It's our common heritage, whether we are believers or not , for Christ sake (or for holy sake? ) . The latest example here in Europe is Santa Claus (Saint Nicolas ) being banned from a public school in northern France because he represents something religious... As a results the children did not get their pastries... Thanks for your kind wishes Ken, It's being appreciated .
I do not know anyone who would be offended by a 'Merry Christmas' greeting. That includes people of all faiths and none. Every year we get a box of chocolates and card from our Muslim neighbours and we reciprocate on their holy days. My grandchildren, here in Scotland, have been taken by the school to Jewish, Muslim and Sikh places of worship and been made very welcome. I think that 'Happy Holidays' was thought up by a bunch of 'do gooders' with nothing better to do and no idea of the mindset of non Christians.
The folks I know who are of different faiths all wish me a Merry Christmas. It is only the weird weenies who would make an issue out of saying Merry Christmas, so Merry Christmas to you all. KTK
Merry Christmas to all of you on this great forum, from Alabama. If fact Merry Christmas to everyone everywhere. My wife is out West visiting our daughter so I am having Christmas dinner with a gathering of Protestant, Catholic and Jewish friends. I anticipate a great feast ! Skipper, bummer, we NEVER had French pastries in school !!!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all . A special thanks to Otto for hosting us and to Skipper and Jeff for keeping order and not let any fighting break out. Gaines
If you own a store, it is not bad business sense to be inclusive of *all* of your customers, not just Christians and secularists who celebrate Christmas. It's your choice, as a business-owner, and you should not receive crap for it, whichever way you decide. Beyond that, Christmas isn't just for Christians. It is a secular holiday, borrowed from a belief system older than Christianity, and nobody but big babies take offense when they're told to have a Merry Christmas.
So Merry Christmas is an okay thing to say? Dangit...I wont be deterred by those 10% Merry Christmas to everyone here on this forum! Merry Merry Christmas! :-D
here are some ancestors of some of your famous cookies recipes. These traditions are regional in France (Lorraine, North, Alsace) . Otherwise, it's celebrated in Germany, Austria, Switserland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, poland and Russia. Oh and be nice or Crampus will come for you ! http://stnicolasfanclub.free.fr/recettes.php Graz , Austria https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZfG5kcnfxI München https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsmfLoMyjMM
It's Merry bl**dy Christmas thank you very much =) , Where I live is a large Muslim population and even we have chucked up all the Christmas decorations and signs. We did the whole thing for Ramadan so the local Muslim community all for us doing the Christmas thing with both all regularly joining in with each others events, Hell even had some the Muslims over for beer and snags on the Grand final
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Cheery Solstice, whatever. I wonder if some of these intolerant Scrooges would whine about religious holidays if the boss just said "Fine, go to work if you don't like days off based on religious traditions."
Skipper, are you sure that second Krampus video is not Gordon, all dressed up ? He sounds pretty grumpy up above ! "Merry Christmas...though I'm veering towards "Bah Humbug" these days..." Or maybe "Bah Humbug" means Merry Christmas in some Scottish dialect?" Hard to tell......It could mean" Independence Now !!" for all I know. I'll go now and eat my cold porridge .......
