Hello all. My name is Tom and less than 2 weeks I'll be 60 years old. I'm from Connecticut where I've lived most of my life. The tagline "labman078" shows my love for Labrador Retreivers. Currently I have one, Ab the Lab, who is 14 and a half years old and has retired from bird hunting. Her claim to fame is having a great "nose" for woodcock. As far as hobbies go I always say "anything outdoors": hunting, fishing, birding, etc. Being the age that I am I grew up with and knowing WW2 veterans. My Dad was a ground crew chief in the 10th. Airforce Army Air Corps. He served in the CBI until he was injured at Myitkyina field. I had an uncle that was a combat enigneer in the ETO. And my wife's father was with the 7th. Armoured Division in the ETO. At a young age I looked up to these people as heroes. As time went on I realized that they were perfectly fallible humans, but hey were and will always be my heroes. I don't want these men,and all others that served like them, forgotten. If it wasn't for them who knows what our world structure would look like today. I myself feel that I own a debt of gratidude that can never be properly repayed. So, my reason for joining this forum is to increase my knowledge of WW2 and possibly through the forums get some questions answered that I have concerning my Dad and uncle. And possibly contribute something to help people out in their own personal quest. It is evening here so I'll close with, have a good evening. Tom from Ct.
Welcome to the forum. As for questions, ask away. We have plenty of people who are willing to lend their knowledge in hopes that it will spur greater involvement. Share what you feel comfortable with, and we'll do our best to help.
Welcome to this forum Tom ! I echo Lou. Always ask if you need help. I did myself regarding a veteran I met last year, and the members were amazing in how much they helped me. The people here are great and always willing to answer your questions!
Thanks for all the welcomes! Actually it was my father-in-law. He was with the 7th.Armoured and was in the St. Vith area during the Bulge. My uncle, who's unit I do not know, was in the Hurtguen Forest. He was listed as missing in action for 3 weeks behind the lines. I wish i had the forsight to get more details of that!
Ah, listed missing for 3 weeks? Maybe if you could tell us your uncle's name we could help you with that.
