It could be argued that this description might fit much of the output of Fox News ;)

Neither Fox nor MSNBC is a good source for news. They are both echo chambers that do not permit discussion nor admit that the opposition has any good ideas. A pox on both their houses.

This should come as no surprise to anyone.
Does anyone really think this sort of thing has not been going on for years ? And from everyone who has the means to do it, which considering the relative low cost of this compared to other forms of propaganda means every nation state with a leadership capable of making desisions.
What do you think the significant budgets allocated to "psyops" are for ? Just looking at those, and I would bet there are lots of "black" programmes too, gives an idea of the size of the phenomenon in the west, and there is no reason to think non democracies are not doing the same. The only limitation here is .... competition for talent, really good psyops operators are likely to make a lot more money working in advertising, so the goverments mostly have access to just the second raters. (IMO moral principles will not help government recruiting here, people with morals do not work in that field ).

No, not really a surprise. This has been going on as long as internet forums has existed.

I remember years ago when I was working as a sales manager in big national company group. Company's ethic was more than questionable and its reputation was very low. Our sales director sat most of his days on front of his laptop and wrote all kinds of positive company praises all over different internet forums, that was his job at that time.

So, my point is that this kind of propaganda are everywhere.

Yes, yes, I know many people and organizations do this, but there are degrees and some are far more guilty than others. Given the USSR's record of disinformation over its entire history I am not surprised that Putin is doing this. It's a very old Soviet and Cheka technique, and Putin is an old Chekist. Does anything ever change in Russia?

I have a rule to never click on/download ANYTHING from an .ru or .cn address.

The series Blacklist entered this arena with the recent "Troll Farmer" episode. Showing the World one of the methods of proliferation of the shady technique.

Was going to offer up PMSNBC, something that our dear boy Sheldrake might appreciate better, but you tended it quicker.
