    Hi guys,

I am new and by no means a WWII buff, but I have this question which will first of all surely interest someone, and secondly because I am totally ignorant and don't know where to find information, I thought where better to find experts or knowledgeable people than a specialised forum ?

I hope that you don't view this as me basically using the forum just to get the info I need :)

So, I found this stamped ( an ink stamp rather than a postal stamp ) on a weird place.

I searched for hours for natzi state eagles and stamps and emblems etc... and couldn't quite place it.

Is it something contemporary ? or did someone use an antique stamp or something ? does it signify a certain period or devision, or is it more generic ?

I'm sure there is some meaning to the details such as the wings and where the eagle is facing etc...

Anyway, I leave this in your capable hands, and would love some insight .

    Thanks

It may be helpful if you would explain what you mean by "a weird place". The context in which it was found may be important to providing you an accurate answer.

Hi TD, thanks for the feedback. However, it was found on a contemporary bank note. so definitely not a place for such a stamp. i was going to pay for some groceries and found it on there, so very slowly put it back in my pocket .

My first thought is that this is a fake. 99% of the hand stamps that I have seen have the wings out. The 1% that I have seen, with wings down, are of the German Red Cross, and that eagle looks very different than the one on your bill.

That, and hand stamps are easily faked, and often passed off as "original".

Not to state the obvious, but even if the stamp that made the impression was authentic, the impression on a modern bank note is not going to have any value. In fact, as your actions reflect, it's presence may have devalued the bank note itself. ;)

Most laundromats or car washes have bill changes. Unless it is a large denomination bill, that would be the perfect place to exchange the bill with no one else being the wiser.

Is that what they mean about "laundering money?"

Hi All and thanks for your insight.

Of course the stamp is not "authentic" per se, but as Takao pointed out, most would make the eagle with it's wings out. My question was basically, was there in any point in time a Nazi logo like this one in particular. if someone was being cute, which is obvious, why would they forge a stamp with an atypical eagle ? as TD mentioned, it is of no value, and yes it did devalue my money, so I would like to understand exactly what is it ? at least i can scratch that itch.

I am genuinely curious about the emblem. is it for example for a certain part of the Nazi military ?

I will of course consider the laundry option :D

    Thanks

The trouble with the laundry option is that someone else is going to get screwed. I would say that you got pretty good value for your money already, call it the price of admission and welcome to the forum.

This is the closest I could find:

judging by the domain name it is most likely a fantasy rendering. As for why it is on a piece of currency is interesting. It may very well be that the person who applied the stamp was testing it for authenticity on specific type of paper.
