From wikipedia: And here's a gameplay video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWo39zKMavE Looks like an interesting game IMO and it's available on Steam, what do you guys/gals think?
Very interesting game concept, matrix's "uncommon valour" that is similar in scope, has a model that is too complex for the effort they put in the user interface so I'm still looking for a good game on the campaign. (IMHO you can make a computer game model as complex as you like but then you need months of work to successfully hide it to the player that unless he wants to micromanage). But can you even run the thing on a modern PC ? I had trouble getting Grisby's War In Russia to run even it was somewhat updated by Matrix Games and I consider myself a fairly competent software engineer. BTW the Italian equivalent of Jane's Almanacco Navale was used by the Regia Marina for identification, I still have my uncle's copy from 1943, so the Japanese were not the only ones. I have seen some old copies of Jane's and was surprised at the number of advertising pages it contains, that advertising is obviously there in the expectation naval officers will see it.
yes, kind of old, isn't it?? but still might be enjoyable....I had old games that I enjoyed even though the graphics were not up to date.....I've been looking for a good naval game, one with multiplayer but no play to pay
Have you tried this? I highly recommend it. It is totally free to play and multiplayer only but of course there are options to pay for all kind of extra stuff but it's not pay to win game at all. http://worldofwarships.com/
Yep, you start from bottom tier 1 and work your way up the tiers unlocking new and better ships. If you'd like to jump right away to higher tiers and better ships then you need real life money. Well, if you have played World of Tanks, you know all this. It is basically the same game but with ships from same gaming company.
yes, WOT was goofy as there were a wide variety of tanks in the game....not 'realistic' at all.....and WOW-planes, took forever to load a game
Yeah I know! If you are seeking for realistic, more simulation kind of naval game then this is not for you. I don't personally mind about the arcade style of play as especially in simulation games the learning curve is too much for me to keep myself interested.
I used to have this game. When you switched on the game, it checked that you had purchased the game by presenting a ship silhouette which you were supposed to identify from the manual - or just had a decent knowledge of WW2 ships! There was also an air to air game as well. No visible icons and not at all easy to operate with just a keyboard. It was a little clunky and IIRC had no multi player version. Not a million miles from these graphics by Tone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZZ7wdnRLsE
Destroyer and SH3 were amazing where they were separate games....but in multiplayer it would be destroyer vs sub...
roger that, Takao.....been so long ago...that long???? o my...I played SH1 and loved it.....I've got SH4, and 5...graphics are great..plus there are great mods to download that make them better!
SH4 was my last, I was a die-hard follower of the series right up until 4 and never purchased 5. It wasn't that I had lost interest in the game, but that I had gotten fed up with the publisher's, Ubisoft, shenanigans. The game was released with several game stopping bugs, and after a few patches, still was not functionally fixed. Then, they made us, the game buyers, beg for a last patch, and the final insult was that the made us actually pay for it in the way of the U-Boat missions add-on disk which included patch 4.5. Buying the add-on disk was the only way to get the last patch. SH5 looked, good, but looks, to me, are not everything, and the game was released in even worse condition than SH4. Further, being restricted to only the Type VII did not appeal to me, as the Type IX and the Type XXI were my favorite boats. On top of that, I believe that the core game was harder, if not impossible, to mod(Haven't been on the subsim.com forums in an age) - the mods only seemed to improve on the graphics, and none on the game play. I would take SHIII with the GWX supermod over SH5 any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
I think they should remaster this game, give it a graphical overhaul and make it compatible with modern day computers, but keep the gameplay mechanics the same(of course), that would be awesome.
I don't think the genre is popular enough...I liked Fighting Steel a lot...how popular was Battlestations Midway? I don't think the main gaming population likes the ''strategic'' games...I play Rising Storm, but mostly as commander...so all I do is look at the map, give commands, and drop arty and use recon...I'm good at at, since I'm older, etc....but the kids I'm sure are bored with commander
